Dr Oz explained the difference between the Ayurvedic Medicine Body Types: Kapha, Vata and Pitta.  Click on the following link to figure out which one you are: Ayurvedic Medicine Body Types.  Ok so now that you know your body type, what do you do with that information?  Do you want to know how to lose weight and live longer? On today’s show, Dr Oz gives you the best foods that help fight disease for your body type. Neurologist, Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, MD, stated that everyone needed to shift their diet for their specific body type in order to successfully lose weight and ward off disease.  And if all else fails, you can use Tim Gunn’s Wardrobe Tips to look great no matter what your shape.

Dr Oz: Kapha Diet Foods

Since this is the largest body type, you should eat foods that are light and easy to digest.

Avoid:

Dr Oz Body Type Diets

Dr Oz gave Body Type Diets for Kapha, Pita & Vata Body Types.

-sugars
-salts
-cheese
-start by reducing these foods by 25% and then increase to 50%

Eat:
-You can have every other spice, such as honey and turmeric
-load up on veggies and whole grains
-eat foods high in fiber like lentils or bran

Kapha Meal:
Try meals heavily spiced with turmeric, such as steamed veggies. Eat 3 meals a week like this. Kapha body types are naturally large so you don’t want to completely change your body type.

Dr Oz: Pitta Diet Foods

Pitta body type is medium build and muscular

Avoid:
-spicy foods
-acidic foods (vinegar)
-alcohol (Phew! Luckily, this isn’t my body type!)
-coffee

Eat:
-naturally cooling foods
-sweet, juicy fruits (coconuts)
-white rice

Pitta Meal:
Eat foods made with kale, cucumber, cumin, coconut.
Salad with jicama and mangoes

Dr Oz: Vata Diet Foods

Small thin frames and they are dry and cold

Avoid:
-dried cereals
-raw veggies
-cold food (ice cream)
-carbonated beverages

Eat:
-oily food
-well cooked food
-Ghee (clarified butter) Dr Oz tried it and said it tasted like popcorn
-cooked cereals
-cooked veggies
-nuts (walnuts)

Vata Meal:
Eat meals with split yellow lentils, rice, turmeric, cumin and those other spices that help with digestion.

Dr Oz noted that when looking practice Ayurvedic Medicine, it is important to look for a medical practitioner and as well as one who specializes in Ayurvedic practices.

  2. I would like to take the ayurvedic body type quiz. I can’t seem to find the link to the test. I realy would like to find out what body type i am. I have put on about 15 lbs in the last 10 years.. I can’t seem to shed the fat in my belly and thighs it used to be so easy to do.
