Dr Oz spoke about the pros and cons of Sugar Substitutes, but what about healthy food swaps in general?  What could be worse than diet food? It’s bad enough you’re trying to lose weight, but let’s be real, some of the lower calorie foods suck! Not anymore! On today’s show, Doctor Oz was joined by Healthy Living Expert, Terri Trespicio, to give you the best low calorie flavor boosters that not only taste great, but with 1/5 of the calories, they will help you lose weight, too.

Terri described flavor boosters as foods that you’re adding to another food to give it flavor that can change the entire dynamics of your meal.

Dr Oz: Coconut Milk Creamer

-replace heavy cream with Coconut Milk Creamer

Dr Oz said that Coconut Milk Creamer is a good substitute for cream in your coffee.

-soy free and dairy free
-contains healthy fats
-gives your coffee robust flavor
-$3 in grocery stores

An audience member tried coconut milk creamer in coffee and told Dr Oz she loved it. Regular creamer contains 50 calories. Coconut milk creamer has only 10 calories. Swap out for a year and you will weigh 12 lbs less.

Dr Oz: Sundried Tomato Paste

-use sundried tomato paste instead of ketchup, which contains too much sugar and sodium
-you only need a quarter tablespoon for a kick to your meal.
-4x stronger than ketchup for more flavor

Ketchup contains 30 calories per serving and sundried tomato paste contains only 12 calories. Swap out for a year and you can lose 3 extra lbs.

Dr Oz: Roasted Garlic

-swap out butter with roasted garlic
-adds delicious taste to any food

Regular butter contains 100 calories per serving. Roasted garlic has only 9 calories. Swap out for a year and you can lose 5 extra pounds.

Dr Oz: Miso Paste

-replace salad dressing with Miso paste
-mix the paste with vinegar. Squeeze in lemons and use as your salad dressing.
-has a rich, full body, earthy flavor
-Miso is a pro-biotic food and helps the digestive track.

Regular dressing contains 180 calories per serving. Miso paste with the vinegar contains only 20 calories. Swap this in place of salad dressing a few times a week. At the end of the year, you can lose 13 lbs.
