Dr Oz: Childhood Obesity – One In Three American Kids
Childhood obesity is growing at a frightening pace in our country. One in three kids is overweight or obese, which is triple the number of just 30 years ago. Those children are at serious risk for diseases like Type 2 Diabetes, Asthma or even heart failure, but if your child was overweight or obese would you put them on a diet? Dr. Oz’s next guest did just that and her daughter was only seven years old!
Dr Oz: Mother Puts Seven-Year-Old On a Diet
Dara-Lynn Weiss made headlines when she put her seven-year-old daughter on a diet after she tipped the scale at 93 pounds and was diagnosed as obese by her doctor. Dara-Lynn said that her daughter’s diet was mostly healthy just like the rest of the family, but she loved to eat a lot of food and was sometimes allowed unhealthy choices that caused her to gain a lot of weight over time.
Dr Oz: Dara-Lynn Weiss Strict and Obsessive
Dara-Lynn Weiss explained to Dr. Oz that her decision to intervene and make her daughter lose weight was due strictly to health and medical reasons and was not ever about ridiculing her daughter even though that is what many outsiders believed. While she will accept the criticism that she was strict and obsessive, she said that other statements are simply not true regarding her family’s situation.
Dr Oz: Red Light Green Light Eat Right Nutrition Plan For Obese Kids
Dr. Joanna Dolgoff, a childhood obesity specialist, told Dr. Oz that when Dara-Lynn Weiss brought her daughter, Bea, to her Bea was diagnosed as clinically obese so she put her on her Red Light Green Light Eat Right Nutrition Plan. On this plan children are taught that green light foods are healthy, yellow light foods are moderately healthy and red light foods are unhealthy.
