Dr Oz: Dr Weil’s Anti-Inflammatory Diet with Black Cod & Turmeric

Dr Andrew Weil: Anti-Inflammatory Diet Plan

Most of the conditions we worry about, such as Alzheimers, Cancer, and even digestive problems all have a common link: chronic inflammation. The good news about this is that Dr Weil says you can change your diet to change your prognosis. Get the five ingredients, including black cod, that can lower your risk of inflammation and disease.

Dr Andrew Weil said that “food is the ultimate medicine,” proving the axiom that you are what you eat. He said our typical American diet leads to inflammation, because it focuses on the wrong things. Natural foods are more likely to manage inflammatory symptoms.

Dr Andrew Weil True Food Review

Dr Oz: Black Cod, Turmeric & Cracked Grains Prevent Inflammation

Dr Andrew Weil shared the five key ingredients of his anti-inflammatory diet, including black cod, as outlined in the new book “True Food.”

Kale is rich in vitamins, as Dr Oz Fans know. It’s one of the cornerstones of True Food, Dr Weil’s latest book. The globetrotting guru says he “can turn your kitchen into a pharmacy.” Dr Oz said his wife loves the new book.

Keeping things natural and cooking them yourself means you can control the flavor and take the reins on your own health. He calls food “a cornerstone of good health,” noting that it’s an area of health that we all have complete control over.

How Inflammation Causes Disease

Inflammation helps the body send messages about what parts of your anatomy need attention. But too much inflammation caused by processed foods can lead to chronic health problems.

Dr Weil said our diets focus too much on the wrong types of fats and carbs, without the benefits of fruits, veggies, spices and herbs. He said that good nutrition is the centerpiece of health in life. Exercise and sleep are important as well.

Dr Oz: Trans Fats Cause Inflammation

Dr Oz said that the mainstream medical community still doesn’t put much focus on diet, which he seems to agree with Dr Weil could make a major impact in our nation’s health.

Using a sponge to represent the body, Dr Oz showed how natural foods like vegetables get absorbed. The liquid representing healthy foods was absorbed. But the sponge started to foam when Oz poured on another liquid, representing trans fats and other inflammatory foods.

The immune system can’t keep up, and your body’s natural processes get out of whack. He said this concept is important for Americans to understand when it comes to dieting.

Dr Andrew Weil: 5 Diet Ingredients

Dr Andrew Weil shared his five essential diet ingredients that can change your diet.

Dr Oz: Cheddar Cauliflower or Orange Cauliflower

Carotenoid fruits and veggies topped the list. Look for red and yellow fruits or veggies. Dark, leafy greens are great too, and Dr Weil likes orange cauliflower (also called Cheddar Cauliflower). Try to get five to seven 1/2 cup servings of veggies and fruits every day.

Colorful foods represent protective pigments that help the body fight inflammation naturally.

Dr Oz: Whole & Cracked Grains

Rather than flour or pulverized grains, look for whole and cracked grains. These won’t cause the blood sugar and insulin spikes that also lead to inflammation. “You want to see pieces of grain,” Dr Weil said.

Try to find three to five 1/2 cup servings per day. Check out quinoa or brown basmati rice if you’re looking for something new to try.

Dr Oz: Polyphenol Oils

Nut oils containing polyphenols, as well as extra virgin olive oil, are also a key component of Dr Weil’s diet. He said his diet philosophy is based on a Mediterranean approach.

Dr Oz: Black Cod, Sable & Butter Fish

Sable fish, butter fish or black cod has more Omega-3s than Salmon. It can be grilled or cooked in your favorite way. Dr Weil suggested two to three fish servings every week. Vegetarians could try walnuts, flaxseed or hemp seeds, but fish is still the best source outside of algae Omega-3 supplements.

Dr Oz: Turmeric Prevents Alzheimers?

The chemical compounds in herbs and spices also provide a natural defense against inflammation. Try these out in your kitchen:

  • Rosemary
  • Basil
  • Cinnamon
  • Chiles
  • Curry Powder
  • Ginger
  • Turmeric

Indians eat Turmeric at every meal, which could be associated with their low incidence of Alzheimers Disease. Could you eat that much Turmeric? You should checkout the Oz Chopra Spice Rub that fights Alzheimers and is simple to make at home.
