Dr Oz: Daily Fiber Recommendation

Have you ever felt so bloated that you feared your pants might burst? If so, it is time to pay attention to what Dr. Oz has to say when he reveals the bloat cure to get rid of your discomfort once and for all. First, though, it is time to learn what really causes your bloating!

Dr Oz: Anti-Bloat Elixir

Dr. Oz says the foods you eat and the beverages you drink could be the cause of your bloating and if you are woman you could have more of a problem due to having a curvier colon than men. That curvy colon can literally cause food to get stuck and air and gas to build up, leading to bloating and stomach pain. Dr. Robynne Chutkan, author of Gutbliss, says the biggest mistake women make is clogging their digestive system first thing in the morning. Dr. Chutkan says you have to prevent the bloat before it even has a chance to start and she has the solution to end your digestive issues once and for all.

Anti-Bloat Elixir Recipe

Dr Robynne Chutkan recommends eating fennel seeds before and after a meal to prevent bloating.

  • 1 cup Coconut Water
  • ½ cup Pineapple
  • ½ cup Papaya
  • 1 tablespoon Acacia Fiber Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Psyllium Husks
  • 1 handful of Spinach
  • 4-6 ice cubes

Mix all the ingredients in a blender and enjoy first thing in the morning. This shake contains 10 grams of fiber, which is more than a third of the 25 grams Dr. Chutkan recommends every day in order to avoid bloating.

Dr Oz: Diet Plan to Prevent Bloating

Even though 25 grams of fiber may sound like a lot, Dr. Chutkan says it is easier than you might think to get them all in throughout the day and the best way to accomplish that is by making lunch your biggest meal of the day. She says this is the time of day when you need the calories and energy and it is also the time of day when your digestive system is most active.

Dr. Chutkan explains that another way to prevent bloating is by eating a small dinner that is finely chopped so your stomach does not have to do as much work to break down the food later in the day.

Another way to prevent bloating is to avoid eating leftover pastas, rices, and potatoes because when they have been cooled and then reheated they turn into resistant starches that are very difficult to digest.

Dr Oz: Eliminate Dairy to Prevent Bloating

Dr. Oz says the next step in curing your bloat is to eliminate dairy from your diet. Dr. Robynne Chutkan says that you could be eating dairy every day and getting bloated, but not even realize the dairy is to blame until you eliminate it.
Here are some substitutes she recommends:

  • Almond Milk
  • Coconut Milk Ice Cream

Fennel Seeds: Carry a few whole fennel seeds in your purse and chew on a few of them right before a meal and then a few more at the end of a meal. As an added bonus they even freshen your breath!
