Dr Oz: Metabolism Body Types
Dr Oz wanted to help viewers understand how hormones affect your body type as well as your metabolism. Those with belly fat are Apple Body Types. But what if you have fat hips, thighs or butt? These are Pear Body Types. (If that’s not you, you might be a Box Shape Body Type.)
Dr Oz Metabolism: Pear Body Type
For as many as 2/3 of women, the butt is the first place they put on pounds, and it’s the hardest weight to lose. But what can you do about this?
Nutrition expert Dr Jeffrey Morrison said that the pears have excessive estrogen, which can lead to weight gain in areas such as:
- Belly Pouch
- Lower Hips
Fat cells make estrogen, which also goes up during pregnancy or menstruation. That means if your diet is out of whack, things can really go wrong. Then it’s hard to get it back under control.
Dr Oz: Pear Body Type Shape Cellulite
Fat storage in the hips and thighs was a critical evolutionary development. But that doesn’t necessarily serve the needs or wants of modern women. Food is readily available, and Doctor Oz said that cellulite is also related to this discussion.
He showed an animation of fat cells absorbing excessive nutrients. They create a web that leads to the dimpled appearance of cellulite that no one wants to see.
Dr Oz: Pear Shape Health Risks
Dr Morrison listed the important health concerns women with a Pear Body Shape need to be aware of, including Osteoporosis.
- Joint Problems
- Varicose Veins
Menstruating women can regulate calcium using estrogen, but after menopause this boost goes away. Do these sound like health issues you are worried about, or do you think Apple Shapes or Box Shapes have it worse?
Dr Oz: Can You Change Your Body Shape?
Dr Oz wondered if women have the ability to change their body shape over a long period of time. According to Dr Morrison, it’s more likely that a pear would shift to an apple than the other way around.
But Dr Morrison said controlling diet can lower your disease risk and get you closer to your natural body weight, which is the weight you would be if not for the hormonal issues in your path.
