Dr. Smith said he came up with a program, but only shared it with a few of his friends until many of his Twitter followers began asking for weight-loss help. He tweeted some of the tips from his program, but quickly realized that he needed to write another diet book because so many people needed the help. He explained to Dr. Oz that he chose the title of Shred because it was a way for readers to visualize what they were doing to their body as they shredded pounds.

Dr. Ian Smith told Dr. Oz that he does not believe in perfection when it comes to losing weight. He likes to eat pizza and ice cream, so he believes it is about balance.
