Dr. Ian Smith, author of the book Shred: The Revolutionary Diet, told Dr. Oz that he had no desire to write another diet book, but he kept getting requests from friends to help through a plateau so they could the last bit of weight to reach their goal. Dr. Smith said he came up with a program, but only shared it with a few of his friends until many of his Twitter followers began asking for weight-loss help. He tweeted some of the tips from his program, but quickly realized that he needed to write another diet book because so many people needed the help. He explained to Dr. Oz that he chose the title of Shred because it was a way for readers to visualize what they were doing to their body as they shredded pounds.

Dr. Ian Smith told Dr. Oz that he does not believe in perfection when it comes to losing weight. He likes to eat pizza and ice cream, so he believes it is about balance. He wanted to create a program that was easy and accessible to everyone with foods that they could find right at their local grocery store.

    This Shred diet does not accommodate people who have to work…who can make the Smoothies & the Shakes if they are at work?..do you substitute something else in place of the smoothies or shakes?

    I purchase the pre-made protein shakes in the pharmacy department at Wal-Mart, or the powder that you only have to mix with cold water. I have the shake and a small cup of yogurt for lunch. Although not exactly what he calls for as the protein shakes, it is an easy substitute when in the office.
