Dr Oz: Should You Wash Raw Chicken?

Is chicken processed in China safe? Barbara Kowalcyk says the USDA claims that China has similar food safety guidelines to ours here in the U.S., but the problem is that none of our inspectors will be keeping an eye on things so we basically have to trust that China is following the rules. She says this could be very difficult given the checkered past of China’s unsafe food practices that includes contaminated baby formula and pet treats that have led to mysterious deaths of dogs and cats here in the U.S. Barbara says China is literally decades behind the U.S. in food safety, which is frightening considering we could improve on our own system in many ways, too.

Michael Hansen of Consumer Reports says you should never rinse raw chicken because it can spread bacteria throughout your kitchen.
