Dr. Oz: Is It Safe to Eat Food Past the Expiration Date?

Dr. Oz talked on his show about whether it’s safe to eat food past the expiration date. For answers, he turned to NBC News correspondent Jeff Rossen, who did an investigation about this. Americans throw out 160 billion pounds of food every year. An average family of four throws out $1,560 worth of food annually. But it turns out a lot of that out-of-date food is perfectly good. A new study by Harvard and the NRDC shows these dates are misleading. It turns out from cereal to salad dressings to eggs, foods can be totally safe well past the date.
