Dr Oz: Kiwi, Celery & Raisins Clean Your Teeth

By on March 3, 2011

Doctor Oz played a game called Eat Your Teeth Clean because brushing and flossing are not the only way to  keep your teeth healthy and clean – food can protect your teeth too.  Do you know how to eat your teeth clean?  I have actually heard multiple times that apples are the best way to clean your teeth, like in this article: Apples Brush Your Teeth!  So I was not at all surprised to hear that there are foods that help to keep your teeth clean.  I just wish that Dr Oz had elaborated a bit on why exactly kiwi and celery help to clean your teeth, but I think he had so much trouble “revealing the answers” that he got a bit flustered – poor Mehmet!

Dr Oz: Kiwi Cleans Teeth

Dr Oz’s first question was which fruit cleans your teeth: kiwi or strawberries?  Dr Oz said that kiwis help to clean your teeth, though I was surprised that the answer Dr Oz Foods That Clean Teethwas not strawberries because he said on a previous episode that strawberries can be used to help whiten your teeth (click here to read how to whiten your teeth with strawberries: Strawberry Teeth Whitener Remedy).

Dr Oz: Celery Cleans Teeth

Dr Oz’s second question was which vegetable cleans your teeth: celery or avocado?  The answer is that celery cleans your teeth, but again this surprised me because I seem to always get those little stringy bits from celery stuck in my teeth!

Dr Oz: Raisins Clean Teeth

Dr Oz’s final question was which dried fruit will clean your teeth: raisins or prunes?  The answer is that raisins will clean your teeth because they have antioxidants that helps to prevent bacteria from sticking to your tooth enamel.

Both ladies who played this game won a box of all of the foods that keep your teeth clean along with a copy of Dr Oz’s You Book!

Comments to Dr Oz: Kiwi, Celery & Raisins Clean Your Teeth

  1. I am a dental hygienist and I just want to say that no dried fruit, especially raisins will clean teeth. Raisins are actually bad for teeth because they are cariogenic. They stick to the teeth and when eaten often, can greatly increase chances of getting a cavity.

Firm and crunchy foods, preferably low in sugar, are best to clean teeth like apples, carrots and celery.

I am a dental hygienist and I believe what is said is 100% true. Kiwi meat is the highest in protein when compared to any other meat. The protein in the meat will strengthen the outer enamel of your teeth and repel out any nasty bacteria from clinging onto your teeth.
