Dr Oz: Gabrielle Giffords Tucson Arizona Congresswoman Shot

Dr Oz is doing a segment on today’s Dr Oz Show about the tragic shooting of Rep Gabrielle Giffords.  The  Arizona Congresswoman was shot in the head this past Saturday, January 8, 2011, along with many others who were also senselessly killed or wounded during this attack.  Doctor Oz has a person connection to this case because Dr. Michael LeMole is Dr Oz’s brother-in-law, and he is one of the neurosurgeons that treated Congresswoman Giffords.  Dr LeMole, Dr Oz’s wife Lisa’s brother, is going to reveal information in the interview with Dr Oz to hopefully give us a better understanding of what exactly happened and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords chances for fully recovering.

Dr Oz’s Brother-In-Law: Dr Michael LeMole Treats Congresswoman Giffords

For those of you who have not yet heard about this awful story, Congresswoman Gifford was shot in the head by a man named Jared Lee Loughner, a 22-year-old man that may claim to be mentally ill.  Loughner was charged on Sunday for this criminal act of shooting.  A total of six people lost their lives and another 13 were wounded.  In an interview that Dr Oz did with Good Day New York, he said the following: ” The bullet wound was a lot like that of President Kennedy. It was a rear entry wound that was a few millimeters off so it took some of her skull. It went into the brain. The most important thing Michael had to do was stop the bleeding. The intern who put pressure on Giffords (as she was carried away in a stretcher on Saturday) helped a lot. It’s important that they prevent more brain damage.  They’re keeping the blood pressure low to keep the brain from swelling.”

Dr Oz: Congresswoman Giffords Recovery

Dr Oz and other doctors have commented on various news programs that they are cautiously optimistic about Congresswoman Giffords Dr Oz & Dr LeMolerecovery.  Dr LeMole said that the swelling in Giffords’ brain did not increase on Monday and, after about three days, you can feel more confident that things will work out well.  The biggest concern at this point is about Congresswoman Gifford’s brain swelling.  I look forward to hearing the full interview of Dr LeMole on Dr Oz’s Show today and, as always, I will post a recap of the interview as soon as possible!  UPDATE: click here for a recap of Dr Oz’s segment called Tragedy in Tucson.
