Dr Oz: Cancer Myths & Lies, Varicose Veins & Antioxidants

Dr Oz: Cancer Lies

Dr Oz’s Show on August 31, 2011 is called The Biggest Lies You’ve Ever Been Told About Cancer.  Some of the myths that Doctor Oz spoke about include whether or not everyone has Cancer in their bodies, if Cancer is contagious or not and that you only get “Female Cancers” from your mother.  A very important point that Dr Oz spoke with Dr Dara Richardson-Heron about is the myth that you only need to examine your breasts when doing a self-Breast Cancer Exam.  Your breast tissue actually goes as far up as your clavicle bone (another name for your collar bone), and all the way over to your arm pit.  In fact, you can even get Cancer growing in your lymph nodes as high up as the side of your neck.

Dr Oz: Varicose Veins

Doctor Oz did another segment on Varicose Veins and various treatments for them.  One Dr Oz Cancer Liesway to prevent Varicose Veins is through wearing 25 mm HG Compression Stockings.  But you can also help to minimize the swelling and edema in your legs by talking to your doctor about taking 300 mg of Horse Chestnut Seed two times a day.  Of course there is always the option that my mom likes to stress, which is elevating your legs.  And a final, more drastic, Varicose Vein Treatment is to actually have surgery.

Dr Oz: Antioxidant Superheros

Dr Oz also spoke about Antioxidant Superheros such as Glutathione & Milk Thistle.  Glutathione is found naturally in your body and helps to remove toxic cells from your body.  So how can you know if you have enough Glutathione in your body?  Dr David Katz told Dr Oz that you increase your risk of having low Glutathione-levels if you have a chronic disease such as Cancer or Diabetes.  You can have your Glutathione-levels checked if you suspect they might be low.    You can increase the amount of Glutathione in your body by eating sulfur-rich vegetables, selenium-rich vegetables or by taking Milk Thistle and Vitamin B6.

I did everything right, had mammograms yearly, but I found a lump about the size of a pea when I raised my arm over my head. It was in my arm pit. I wasn’t sick but had it taken out and 14 lymph nodes, cancer was in 10 of them but the Doctor said the area was clean. Had chemo and radiation and this is my 10th year. I was told at the time that the cancer was also in my lungs, spleem and liver, but after scans yearly, my first scan looks the same as my last scan in January of this year. Evidently, my oncoligist said, that is just the way your organs look. I as currently the Ex. Dir of the United Way for two counties in TN and I’ll be 76 12/31/11.
