Ask Dr Oz Cancer Edition
Dr Oz’s Show on July 20, 2011 was focused on the topic of Cancer. Doctor Oz spoke about an Anti-Inflammatory Spice Mix, an At Home Radon Test to help prevent Lung Cancer, and how Vitamin D Fights Cancer. Rachel Beller joined Dr Oz for his Cancer Fighting Foods segment and gave a great Magic Spice Mix for fighting off Cancer which is made of 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1/2 tsp turmeric and 1/2 tsp garlic salt. My main question though is why did she pick garlic salt rather than plain garlic powder? It seems to me that salt is something that we generally try to decrease in our diet. So when I make her Anti-Inflammatory Spice Mix, I substitute regular garlic powder for the garlic salt. She also suggested drinking Matcha Green Tea rather than regular tea, because Matcha Tea has many more antioxidants in it.
Dr Oz: Gurmar Extract
Doctor Oz also did a segment on the importance of blood sugar and blood pressure for healthy kidneys. If your blood pressure is over 115/75 (though I have also heard that 120/80 is considered “normal” by many doctors), then you could be hypertensive which can damage your kidneys. High blood sugar, especially if you are Diabetic, can also harm your kidneys. So Dr Oz came up with two natural remedies for addressing these health issues. By drinking three cups of Hibiscus Tea daily, you can help to lower your blood pressure. And 200 mg of Gurmar Extract daily can help to lower your blood sugar. But as always, check with your doctor before taking any herbal remedies or teas to be sure it is right for you.
Dr Oz: Lemon Remedies
Dr Oz also spoke about Lemon Remedies, because lemons have so many fabulous uses outside of cooking. I love to use a lemon wedge as a natural astringent to cleanse my face in the summer. Doctor Oz spoke about the benefits of combining lemon juice with flaxseed to help improve your digestion too. Or you can make a Lemon Face Mask by combining milk, lemon juice and brandy.
