Many of us, including Dr. Oz, love quinoa, but did you know it offers way more good to your body than you might realize? He asked experts to share some of the benefits this super grain has to offer!

Dr Oz: Quinoa Blueberry Pancakes

Dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie says quinoa contains a high amount of amino acids, which makes it greatly beneficial to our skin. She shared her favorite way to add quinoa to your diet, which is by eating Quinoa Blueberry Pancakes.

Here is what you need:

  • 2 1/2 cups cooked quinoa
  • 1 1/2 cups blueberries
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • Cooking spray

Dr Oz says quinoa provides several health benefits, so he asked a few experts to share their favorite recipes.

  1. In a blender combine the quinoa, honey, oil, eggs and milk and mix until smooth. Add in the salt and baking powder and pulse for a few more seconds.
  2. Heat a large skillet with cooking spray. Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the hot pan, sprinkle blueberries on top and cook for a few minutes.
  3. Flip and cook both sides until golden brown.

Dr Oz: Baked Turkey Quinoa Meatballs

Dr. Roshini Raj says quinoa is great for our intestinal tract because it contains 5 grams of fiber per serving to aid the digestion process.

Here is what you need for Dr. Raj’s favorite lunchtime recipe:

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 cups of tomato sauce
  • 2/3 cup cooked quinoa (replaces breadcrumbs)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup red onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley, plus more for garnish
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil and oregano
  • Salt, to taste
  • lettuce leaves

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl combine the ground turkey, quinoa, onion, garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, egg, salt and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  3. Form into 1 to 1-1/2 inch balls and place on prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
  4. Bake for about 30 minutes until the meatballs are firm and cooked through.
  5. While the meatballs are in the oven, warm up the tomato sauce in a large saucepan. Add the meatballs to the tomato sauce and toss gently to coat.
  6. Garnish with some parsley on top and serve meatballs with the lettuce leaves.

Dr Oz: Quinoa Miso Broccoli Salad

Another wonderful way that quinoa is beneficial is as weight-loss aid. Nutritionist Lauren Slayton says one serving contains 8 grams of protein, compared to just 5 grams in a serving of brown rice. Try Lauren’s Quinoa Miso Broccoli Salad for dinner tonight!

Here is what you need:

  • 3 cups broccoli florets, steamed and roughly chopped
  • 2 cups cooked quinoa
  • 2 cups baby arugula
  • 1⁄4 cup raw sunflower seeds
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon white miso
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt

Here is what you need to do:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, miso, and rice vinegar. Whisk together and set aside.
  2. To another larger bowl, add the quinoa, broccoli, arugula and sunflower seeds. Pour the olive oil mixture over the top and add the salt. Stir to combine. Enjoy!
