Dr Oz: Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipes Supercharged

Dr Oz Turkey Grilled Cheese

Dr Oz made three Grilled Cheese Recipes: classic with tomato, Mediterranean Grilled Cheese and Turkey Grilled Cheese.

Dr Oz: Classic Grilled Cheese with Tomato Recipe


2 slices light whole wheat bread
1 sliced tomato
1 oz grated Parmesan cheese
2 tsp olive oil
4 oz grated cheddar (preferably part-skim or low-fat)
1 tsp malt vinegar (optional)-A big English flavor kicker


Lightly coat no-stick pan with olive oil
Blend both the Parmesan and cheddar cheese together in a bowl
Add bread to pan
Add 3 slices of tomato to each slice of toast (or however many slices you prefer)
Sprinkle the mixed cheese over the tomato
Place baking pan into oven
Top with the second slice of bread
Pull out of the oven when cheese is bubbling
Splash with a little malt vinegar (optional)

Traditional: 800 calories
Danny’s: 478 calories

Dr Oz: Mediterranean Grilled Cheese Recipe


2 slices light whole-wheat bread (only 40 calories per slice)
½ C diced tomato
1 ½ C sliced spinach
2 tsp olive oil
2 oz crumbled goat (or sheep) cheese
2 oz grated mozzarella (skim or low-fat, preferred)
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
Pepper (to taste)


Lightly coat not-stick pan with olive oil (replaces the butter–the bad fat) Use a kitchen towel to rub it in the pan
Blend both the goat (or sheep) & grated mozzarella cheese in a bowl. Mix it together with the tomatoes, spinach, balsamic vinegar and pepper.
Place on slice of bread in the pan
Sprinkle the mixture over one slice of bread (place a good amount on, covering the edges)
Cover with the second piece of bread
Pull out of the pan when cheese is melted.

*Be careful not to burn. Whole wheat bread burns quicker.
Traditional 800 calories
Danny’s 508 calories

Dr Oz: Turkey Grilled Cheese Recipe


2 slices light whole-wheat bread
4 oz turkey breast, sliced (protein that replaces a lot of the fat)
2 oz grated Swiss cheese (skim or low fat, preferred)
2 tsp olive oil
1-Tbsp reduced calorie
1 tsp lemon juice (the acid to kick it up a notch)
Pepper (to taste)


Lightly coat non-stick pan with olive oil
Place bread in pan
Blend reduced calorie mayo and grated Swiss cheese together
Add a pepper and lemon juice (to taste)
Add turkey breast slices to one slice of bread.
Spread the mayo/cheese mixture over the turkey (be sure to cover edges)
Top with second slice of bread
Pull out of the pan when cheese is hot

Traditional: 800 calories 37 g of fat
Danny’s: 387 calories 15 g of fat
