Dr Oz & Marjorie Johnson’s Superfood Recipes: Kale & Sweet Potato

Dr Oz: Marjorie’s Recipes

Dr Oz was joined by Marjorie Johnson, who he claims is the oldest cook in the world – but with her level of energy, you certainly would never know it!  She taught Doctor Oz how to turn his four Superfoods to Stop Aging & Disease (Salmon, Kale, White Kidney Beans and Sweet Potatoes) into a delicious meal.  Marjorie, a Blue Ribbon Chef, told Dr Oz that her secret to staying young is to exercise and to eat all of the healthy foods that he always talks about on his show.

Dr Oz: Marjorie’s Pomegranate Cranberry Kale Recipe

Marjorie Johnson’s first recipe is for Pomegranate Cranberry Kale.  Over medium heat, saute garlic in olive oil for a couple of minutes until it is soft.  Then add the kale, pomegranate juice and dried cranberries.  Cover the pan and let the kale cook for around 5 minutes.  Make sure not to cook it too long or the kale will turn bitter on you.

Dr Oz: Marjorie’s Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Dr Oz’s next Superfood is sweet potatoes, which taste amazing baked in the oven.  I also do something very similar with butternut squash, which make super delicious baked butternut squash fries!  Just chop up the sweet potatoes into “french fry” shape.  Brush Dr Oz Superfood Recipe them lightly with olive oil and sprinkle pumpkin pie spice on top.  You can really use any spice you like, for example Doctor Oz loves the spice Turmeric.  You can even just use a pinch of salt.  Then bake them for half an hour in the oven at 400 degrees.

Dr Oz: Marjorie’s Salmon Recipe

Salmon is pretty straight forward to make, especially Marjorie’s Salmon Recipe.  Just place the salmon (skin side down) on a baking sheet and cook it for about 10 minutes at 400 degrees or until it is cooked through.  You can add a pinch of salt or pickle relish to give it a bit of flavor.

I too was disappointed to discover that the kale recipe was not posted. I don’t have Internet service at home — laid off — so made a trip to the library to go online specifically to get the recipe.
