Dr Oz: Acid Reflux Melatonin Dose

Dr. Oz says the surprising way to treat acid reflux naturally could be as simple as taking Melatonin supplement. While you may know of Melatonin because it helps with sleep and combats jet lag, herbalist Dr. Tieraona Low Dog believes the herb could also put the burning in your belly to sleep and end your pain once and for all. She says many people who suffer from acid reflux also have trouble sleeping, so Melatonin is a natural way to kill two birds with one stone without having to take prescription medication.

I was wondering if I should wean myself off the lansoprazole 30 mg tablet I take daily, while trying the melatonin for my acid reflux? Any suggestions? I really don’t like being on the prescription medication.
    Thank you

  2. Jim Farmer says

For acid reflux, one vignette from your show suggests 3 mg of Melatonin 2 hours before bedtime. The other, with Dr. Lowdog, suggests 2 mg about 60 minutes before bedtime. While not conflicting information, it is slightly discrepant…could you clarify the optimum amount and time? Also, duration was suggested as 4 weeks in the first show, 8 weeks in the latter. Not clear if you mean we should discontinue entirely after that, or rather that these are the time periods that should pass before we can expect to see results. Thanks for any clarification. .

  3. Bill H says

Dr. Oz had a guest once that was saying the 1mg or higher of melatonin is not safe. Now this other guest says that taking 2mg for 8 weeks is safe. Dr. Oz, which one is correct?
Isn’t melatonin bad to take for more than a few days? Dr. Oz, please clarify. Thanks!

  4. Corlyn says

I do not see any answers here 2 the last 2 questions? I have the same questions.
I could only purchase 3 mg tablets. Is too high of a dose. Bottle of melatonin say’s stop use after 4 weeks. Years ago I had indigestion soo bad that they put a camera down to have a look. Many years before that I had the same proble for quite some time. When he had a look, Dr said there is scaring like I had an ulser prevously and that it was inflamed. He said he went further and took a sample. After testing it he said that ulsers are caused by a virus and that I didn’t have that virus. My chiropactor say’s my diaphram has been pushed up causing this. He took a big ball an twisted and pushed down. It went away for years. I have been pushing down myself now as it is back full force and with coughing all the time. I have quite smoking.Heard about the coughing associated with heatburn, so am gong to try the melatonin. Should I cut these 3 mg pills in half. I dd like what I heard about melatonin on Dr. Oz’s other shows
