Dr Oz Carb Plan
Dr Oz spoke about what a Carb Addiction is, and then he gave us a 28 Day Plan to Kick Your Carb Habit For Good! Dr Mike Dow said that you cannot go “cold turkey” and just cut out all bad carbs, because you will feel so irritable and terrible that you will most likely fail. So Doctor Oz put together this four week Carb Addict Plan to help us slowly ween ourselves off of Unhealthy Carbohydrates.
Dr Oz: Curb Carb Cravings
The first week of Dr Oz’s 28 Day Carb Addict Plan is all about adding foods that will curb your carb cravings. You do not have to eliminate any carbs at all from your diet this week. Dr Dow said that it is more about what you add into your diet at this point than what you take away. You want to start eating other foods that will boost Serotonin levels in your brain. For example, add whole grain pasta, brown rice, steel cut oatmeal and quinoa because these will help to keep you full for longer. Also, increase the amount of fruit that you eat because it has great fiber in its skin and it gives you a sustainable level of Serotonin.
Dr Oz: Overeaters Anonymous Meetings
The second week of Dr Oz’s 28 Day Carb Addict Plan is to cut back to only 2 carb servings per day and to find a sponsor to help you. Two servings of carbs everyday is about two fistfuls of things like bread or pasta. Dr Mike Dow said that anyone in the country can find a free sponsor at a local Overeaters Anonymous Meeting, or of course you can find a spouse or friend who will support you and hold you accountable.
Dr Oz: Seratonin Boosters
The third week of Dr Oz’s 28 Day Carb Addict Plan is to cut back to just one serving of carbs per day and to treat your carbohydrate triggers. If you only have one serving of Unhealthy Carbs per day, then you will probably need other things to help make you feel good, especially when triggers like stress hit. Find non-food related activities to boost your Serotonin levels like lighting a candle or taking a bubble bath. Loneliness is another big trigger, so send a text message or call your sponsor when you feel like you are about to go on a Carb Binge.
Dr Oz: Cut Out All Unhealthy Carbs
The final week of Dr Oz’s 28 Day Carb Addict Plan is to replace the hormones triggered by carb with activities that produce hormones – or Hormone Boosting Activities. Oxytocin is a calming feel good chemical, so Dr Mike Dow said that you should have more cuddling. Or at least cuddle with a pet, because apparently that has a similar effect. Go outside and take a walk for 20 minutes to get Vitamin D from the sun. Dr Dow said that Serotonin and sleep go hand-in-hand, so you must get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Lots of people have trouble with this, but it is crucial otherwise your body releases chemicals that make you hungry for the worst foods.
