Dr Oz: Adderall, Amphetamine & Dextroamphetamine Drug Abuse

By on May 18, 2010

Doctor Oz did an episode on Prescription Drug Abuse and spoke about how dangerous and rampant Amphetamine, Dextroamphetamine and Adderall prescription drug abuse is.  Many of us have heard of Aderall, which is often prescribed for children with ADHD.  However, Adderal is now being used in ways it should not be used, like for weight loss, and this can put your life in great dangerAmphetamine, Dextroamphetamine & Adderall .

Charles Sophy, author of Side by Side: The Revolutionary Mother-Daughter Program for Conflict-Free Communication, said that Adderall is basically like the drug called speed or street speed.  Aderall is basically a form of Amphetamine or Dextroamphetamine that ramps up your blood pressure and curbs your appetite.  You build a tolerance to Adderall and then you need an even higher prescription to get the same effects.  And when you the Adderall starts to wear off, you crash in a big way.  Doctor Oz did a great visualization to try to explain what happens, and I will do my best to summarize it!  You  have neurons in your brain that connect in synapses and inside of your brain’s neurons are dopamine chemicals when something nice happens and that make you feel great.  Then the dopamine chemicals get absorbed into the other side until the next time something good happens and you get more dopamine.  However, when you take Adderall, you produce dopamine but it doesn’t get absorbed so it just keeps bouncing around.
