Dr Oz did a segment called Double Duty Home Remedies to teach us about cures that you can find in your medicine cabinet. Reminds me a lot of the concept of a Pantry Spa, a homemade spa using items from your pantry! Here are Doctor Oz’s home remedies for bug bites, callouses and canker sores:
Dr Oz: Witch Hazel – Insect Bite Remedy
Dr Oz said that Witch Hazel helps to soothe irritated insect bites, just like it is used to treat acne. Witch Hazel is a natural astringent that can soothe your skin and has anti-inflammatory properties. I have used Witch Hazel for acne before, but I will have to remember this the next time I get a bug bite! Here is a great Cucumber Mint Skin Refresher Remedy that uses witch hazel too.
Dr Oz: Aloe Vera – Callous Remedy
Dr Oz said that to treat callouses on your feet, you can use Aloe Vera, which of course can also be used to relieve sunburn. You get callouses from extra skin that forms due to excess friction on your foot. At night, apply some aloe to the back of your foot, wrap it with a bandage and put a sock on top of it. I personally would apply the aloe, wrap my foot in plastic wrap and then put a sock on top of that, but that is just my two cents. Another great thing to do with aloe is to make this Hydrating Face Mask.
Dr Oz: Antacids – Canker Sore Remedy
Dr Oz recommended treating your canker sores with antacids! You just mash up a few antacids, add a few drops of water until you form a paste, and then apply the paste to your Canker Sores with a q-tip, making sure to apply some pressure. The antacids will help neutralize acids and speed up the healing of the Cold Sore. And since we are on a roll with home remedies, here is a link to a bunch of other Mouth Remedies.
