Dr Oz Anti-Diarrhea Drink, Diarrhea Causes & Diarrhea Remedies

By on February 10, 2011

Dr Oz did a segment on Diarrhea to teach how your Diarrhea could be dangerous.  Doctor Oz gave a replenishing fix as well, which was an Anti-Diarrhea Drink Recipe made of orange juice, coconut water and salt.

Dr Oz: Diarrhea Causes

Dr Oz said that there are two main causes of diarrhea – infectious causes and parasitic illnesses Dr Oz’s Anti-Diarrhea Drink Recipelike Giardia, which look like horseshoe crabs and cause lots of problems when they get inside of you.  Your intestinal walls have villae that release toxins and poison your cells which cause diarrhea.  If you get bacteria on top of your intestinal wall, then you cannot absorb food anymore and you get diarrhea.  Eating certain foods can cause absorption issues leading to diarrhea or you can get it from an infection that poisons your cells.  If you have contagious diarrhea, it is crucial that you wash your hands.  Though frankly, you should always be diligent about washing your hands in either case.

Dr Oz: How To Replenish Electrolytes

Dr Oz said that severe dehydration is a problem especially in kids because they lose electrolytes quickly.  If you have mild diarrhea, then electrolytes pass through your intestines more quickly so you have a greater opportunity to lose electrolytes.  If you have severe diarrhea though, the electrolytes pour out so fast that no matter what you do, your body cannot catch all of the electrolytes that are escaping.  Dr Oz gave three ways to replenish your electrolytes and to recover from Diarrhea.  Miso Soup is great if you have diarrhea because it has electrolytes and salt.  Barley is another good option because it is binding and can help firm up your Diarrhea.  Dr Oz’s final tip is to eat yogurt, which is good for you because of the probiotics.

Comments to Dr Oz Anti-Diarrhea Drink, Diarrhea Causes & Diarrhea Remedies

  1. Irene Tillett says:

I have chronic diarrhea because of 2 different surgeries on my intestines, one from colon cancer, and one because of a bowel blockage. Is there anything I can do to lesson the diarrhea, it is very hard to have a normal life.

  2. Eileen Werling says:

Hmm…for me, I’ve learned to let the diarrhea settle a bit before going crazy on drinking fluids. If I try to put fluids back in as soon as “the runs” start, it makes it way worse for me…just runs right through and keeps doing that till I just stop drinking anything. And coconut water actually GIVES me diarrhea worse…as does fruit juices. I find miso broth or chicken broth to be much more helpful for some reason…maybe it’s just the way my body is, but it’s less likely to give me problems. If I hold onto the broth without issue, THEN I move on to gatorade, water or some electrolyte drink.
