Dr Oz Athlete’s Foot Fungus- Athlete’s Foot Remedies & Treatment

By on April 28, 2010

Doctor Oz did a segment on Athlete’s Foot Fungus, the most common fungal infection that spreads like wildfire and burns like fire too.  What causes Athlete’s Foot Fungus?  And what are the best Home Remedies and treatments for Athlete’s Foot?  Plus, how do you prevent Athlete’s Foot Fungus?  Dr. Oz answered all of these questions about this horrible foot fungus!  Athlete's Foot Remedies

Athlete’s Foot Causes:

1.  You can get athlete’s foot from wearing the wrong shoes, a locker room or sheets on a bed.

2.  You cannot get athlete’s foot from a pool, because the chlorine kills the fungus.  However, walking around the pool area or in the lock room can definitely cause it… in fact, Dr Oz said this is how Athlete’s Foot Fungus got its name!

Athlete’s Foot Remedies:

Athlete’s Foot Fungus Step #1: Clean Off Rough Material

Take off the rough material on your foot with a sponge.  Dr Oz said that you should especially focus between your toes, where the fungus likes to live.  Make sure not to clean your foot too aggressively though.

Athlete’s Foot Fungus Step #2: Get Rid of Leftover Fungus

Next, you want to apply an antifungal foot cream, which will kill the fungus and keep it from spreading.

Athlete’s Foot Fungus Step #3: Garlic & Olive Oil Home Remedy

Doctor Oz’s home remedy for Athlete’s Foot is to make a paste out of olive oil and garlic, and apply it to your infected foot.

If you do not treat Athlete’s Foot in a timely fashion, you will get bacteria growing in the cracks, so you must treat it as soon as you get it.

Athlete’s Foot Prevention:

1.  Keep Feet Dry

Doctor Oz says you must keep your feet dry, and wear Moisture Wicking Socks.  Also, do not walk on any floor barefoot unless you can lick the floor!

2.  Athlete’s Foot Prevention Home Remedy: Lemon

Squirt some lemon juice on your foot, because the lemon will act like an astringent and dry out the skin, so that your pores will be pulled together and prevent cracks which fungus can grow in.

  1. Hi,

I have vesicular and moccasin type Athlete’s foot. i still get symptoms like itching on my toes, sole and top of my feet even when i apply anti-fungal cream on them every morning and night after washing my feet and drying them.

    do i get re-infection from:
    1. lying on the same bed sheet every night? i wash my bed sheet every week – 2 weeks.
    2. wearing the same pair of shoes once every 72 hrs? i have 3 pairs to rotate for my work as i have to wear covered up shoes

how can i ever rid my feet of Athlete’s Foot? do i hv to change sheets daily or throw out my shoes? i think we know the impracticality of that.

also, i can’t seem to get a straight answer about how to wash my laundry, so i wash it with hot water at 60 deg celsius or 160 deg Fahrenheit and use eucalyptus oil in the final rinse. my doctor said laundry detergent will kill germs & fungi. what is the correct answer?

i hope you can help me.

    many thanks
    Grace
