Dr Oz played a game called “Go Fish! The Best Fish for Staying Strong” on the Dr Oz Show today. Did you know that 75% of women eat less than the recommended 2 servings of fish every week? Doctor Oz said that fish is a great way to stay strong as you age because fish is great for your heart health and your brain health.
Dr Oz: Cod – Selenium for Immune System
Dr Oz said that one of the health benefits of cod is that it contains the mineral Selenium, which keeps your immune system strong. Selenium is an essential mineral and an antioxidant that helps you to fight off illness, since it boosts your immune system.
Dr Oz: Mackerel – Omega 3’s for Brain Health
Dr Oz said that mackerel contains Omega 3’s, a nutrient that keeps your brain strong and prevents memory loss. One of the ladies playing the game with Dr Oz was a medical student, so she of course had an advantage and said that Omega 3’s are good for your brain, skin and bones.
Dr Oz: Halibut – Magnesium for Heart Health
Dr Oz said that halibut contains Magnesium which is a nutrient that helps to keep your heart strong. Magnesium is important for your heart and it helps to open up blood vessels so that more blood can flow into your heart. 4 ounces of halibut give you 30% of your daily requirement of Magnesium.
Dr Oz: Flounder – Potassium for Muscle Strength
Dr Oz said that flounder has potassium which helps to keep your muscles strong as you age. Potassium is important for muscle contraction as well. 3 ounces of flounder gives you 300 mg of potassium.
