Dr Oz: CoQ-10, Eleuthero, Cordyceps & Green Monster Recipe

Doctor Oz was joined by Dr. Andrew Weil as part of Dr Oz’s Alternative Health Clinic, and one of the very interesting topics that Dr Weil covered was what vitamins everyone must take as part of a daily Anti-Oxidant Cocktail along with a fabulous green drink recipe for what Weil calls a Green Monster DrinkCoQ-10, Eleuthero, Cordyceps

Anti-Oxidant Cocktail: CoQ-10

Dr. Andrew Weil told Dr Oz that there are 5 supplements everyone must take daily: vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, vitamin D and CoQ-10.  I had not heard  much about CoQ-10 until now, but Dr Weil says that CoQ-10 is a powerful anti-oxidant that is normally made in our bodies and is good for muscles cells to help them use oxygen.  If you take a Statin medication to lower cholesterol, you absolutely must take CoQ-10.  The following dosages were what Dr Oz suggested:

Vitamin C: 400 mg (2 times daily) – though Dr Weil said really only 250 a day is useful

Vitamin D: 2000 IU

Vitamin E: 400 IU

Selenium: 100 mcg

CoQ-10: 200 mg

Dr Andrew Weil told Dr Oz that it is crucial to take CoQ-10 with a meal that has some fat in it and to look for the gel form of the pill.

Anti-Aging & Energy Booster Vitamins: Eleuthero & Cordyceps

Dr Weil said that Eleuthero is also called Syberian Ginseng and was used by Soviet athletes to make their bodies resist stress and increase their energy.  If you are low on energy, you should consider taking Eleuthero in a capsule form or it is also available in a tea form.

Cordyceps comes from a mushroom in China.  Andrew Weil said that the Cordyceps is added to chicken soup as a dried mushroom and is fed as a tonic to people who are recovering from illness.  Elderly people, people lacking in energy due to old age or recovering from illness can benefit from taking cordyceps.

Dr Andrew Weil’s Green Monster Drink

Mind Body Medicine

The last topic Dr Oz and Dr Andrew Weil covered was Mind-Body Medicine.  In the 1960’s, when Dr Weil was in medical school, there was very little taught about how the mind can effect the body.  Now, four decades of research have been done on Mind-Body Medicine and so there are many methods to take advantage of this connection which are cheap, safe and fun, according to Dr Andrew Weil.  I just wish that he had elaborated and given some examples of these cheap, safe and fun methods he mentioned!

    The Co-Q10 came in a 100 mg dose. How does that equal 2000iu? I don’t know how much to take.

  3. deb Coq10 isn’t measured in iu(s) 200 mg for daily. start with 100 mg for bout a week introduce it slowly. On the other hand vitamin D is in the 2000 i u league hope this will ease confusion!!

  4. I’ve been taking Codyceps every day for over a year and FEEL GREAT. Cordyceps extract is included in an herbal blend in a daily supplement called Add Lib (made by Dreambrands). I have way more energy, improved endurance and stamina when I work out, also better respiration and more motivation.
