Dr Oz’s Detox Review
On the Dr Oz Show today, he had 3 Dr Oz Fans try out 3 different types of cleanses, or detoxes. Although people use cleanses to lose weight, Dr Oz stressed that cleanses were meant for just that — to cleanse the body of toxins. Losing weight is one of the side benefits. Dr Oz said that all detoxes are not designed for weight loss and, with some, you end up losing muscle rather than fat. Marcy tried a liquid cleanse, Maureen tried a juice cleanse, and Annette attempted the cleanse that contains protein. Read on to find out how each woman fared in the detox department.
Dr Oz: Liquid Cleanse Review
Marcy tried the 1 drink six to twelve times a day cleanse. The drink consisted of such ingredients as maple juice, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. Marcy also had to drink a glass of water with laxative tea at night.
The results: Marcy lost 4 lbs in 3 days but she was miserable and according to her, the daily concoction tasted horrible. Dr Oz pointed out that this type of detox does not give you the key nutrients needed to revitalize.
Dr Oz: Juice Cleanse Review
Maureen tried the all juice cleanse. She was to drink 6 glasses of fruit and veggie juice each day.
The results: Like Marcy, Maureen lost 4 lbs. While not the best option, this cleanse did offer some key nutrients and omega 3 fats to repower the bran. It did not, however, contain a lot of fiber, which boosts energy. According to Maureen, she had plenty of up and down moments with this cleanse. She told Dr Oz that she would not try this cleanse ever again!
Dr Oz: Protein Shake Cleanse Review
Annette did the protein shake every 2 hours cleanse. Along with the shake, Maureen was allowed to eat a salad with lean protein and olive oil on the first day. The second and third day, she could have a piece of fruit every two hours.
The results: This seems to be the cleanse that contained the most “real” food, so it was not surprising when she admitted that she liked it and would do it again. What was surprising was that she lost 6 lbs., the most of any of the cleanses. I’m signing up for one this right now!
Dr Oz: Detoxification Process
1. Liver: The liver is the biggest organ inside the body and is the organ most in need of detoxification. It filters all toxins coming into your body and prevents the bad toxins from entering your body. Dr Oz said there are 2 important ways to keep your liver healthy.
-Eat more dark berries, such as blueberries
-Eat hot peppers because they stimulate the enzymes that are responsible for detox.
2. The Intestines (colon): This organ creates the most toxins and you need to continuously flush out the colon. You can help detox by eating high fiber whole grains. (Think of food that comes out of the ground. Unfortunately, the audience member he asked to come up with one, couldn’t!)
3. Kidneys: The kidneys are important to the detox process because they filter the blood every forty minutes. You can boost kidney function with:
- Soy product foods, such as Edamame.
- Cruciferous vegetables.
