Dr Oz: Headache Triggers
Dr Oz said that 90% of women get headaches, but there are some surprising Headache Triggers that you probably never knew existed. Doctor Oz’s Assistant-Of-The-Day, Vivian, said that she notices that stress and work trigger her headaches, along with the scent of freshly cut grass. Dr Oz said that the following can all trigger headaches:
– Cleaning products with ammonia
– Air Fresheners with Formaldehyde
– Strong smelling flowers including, but not limited to, gardenias, lilacs, roses and hyacinths
Dr Oz: Peppermint Oil Headache Treatment
Doctor Oz said that one Headache Remedy is to apply a few drops of Peppermint Oil to the temples of your forehead and massage it in. Just be careful not to get it in your eyes, because that can really burn. The scent of the Peppermint Oil relaxes you and can help relieve tension headaches. In another segment, Dr Oz said that Peppermint Oil helps to improve your alertness as well (click here to read the recap of that show: Dr Oz Peppermint Oil).
Dr Oz: Weather Causes Headaches
Dr Oz said that weather can also trigger headaches, because when there is a storm, there is a shift in Barometric Pressure. You have cold fronts and hot fronts that can cause electrical and chemical changes in your brain that causes headaches. Doctor Oz did a demonstration by heating up the air in a can to create a Low Pressure System, and then he turned the can over quickly into a container of cold water, and the can imploded on itself. This is the same reason that weather can stimulate migraines, tension headaches and can make changes to the blood vessels in your head.
Dr Oz: Feverfew & Butterbur For Headaches
Dr Oz said that of course you can treat headaches with over-the-counter medication, but he is partial to Feverfew Supplements (125 mg a day) to treat headaches. And if you tend to get headaches from physical activity, you should consider trying Butterbur Supplements (75 mg / day).
