Should You Lean Your Head Back During Nosebleeds?

Dr Oz said that it is a mistake to lean your head backwards when you get a nose bleed, because you can swallow the blood and it will go down into your windpipe.  Instead, squeeze the sides of your nose and lean your head forward a little bit.

Should You Breathe Into a Bag When Hyperventilating?

Dr Oz said it is a mistake to breathe into a bag when you are hyperventilating.  The idea was that when you hyperventilate, you breathe out too much carbon dioxide, so by breathing into a bag you will breathe bag in some of that carbon dioxide.  However, it is too hard to tell why you are hyperventilating, and certain causes like asthma need oxygen and not carbon dioxide.  So instead, when you hyperventilate breathe in through your nose and out through pursed lips.

Should You Use a Bag of Frozen Peas on a Black Eye?

Dr Oz said that you should put a bag of frozen peas in a washcloth to help heal a black eye.  He said to avoid steak or meat on a black eye, because that just increases the risk of an eye infection.

Should You Put Hydrogen Peroxide, Iodine or Rubbing Alcohol on a Cut?

Dr Oz said that putting Hydrogen Peroxide, Iodine or Rubbing Alcohol on a cut is a mistake, because all three can actually be toxic.  Dr Oz’s rule is that if you cannot put it in  your eye, then do not put it on a wound.  Instead, just wash the cut with an anti-bacterial soap.
