Dr Oz: Ginkgo Biloba: Macular Degeneration & Virtigo

By on May 17, 2010

Doctor Oz spoke about what Ginkgo Biloba can help and what is Ginkgo Biloba hype.  Many people take Ginkgo Biloba Tablets, so it was very helpful to learn what it can really help with and what is just marketing hype.   Ginkgo Biloba comes from a tree that is one of the world’s oldest living specimens.  Ginkgo Biloba comes from a tree nicknamed the Vomit Tree, because it actually smells like vomit.  Apparently, it is a delicacy in Asia and tastes a bit like lima beans (according to Dr Oz’s assistant) and a bit like chicken (according to Doctor Oz).  Dr Oz’s assistant did say it had a bad after taste… but I digress.Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo Biloba Cures:

Does Gingo Biloba help boost memory? increase intelligence? improve mood? or prevent Alzheimer’s Disease?

Dr Oz said it is just a bunch of hype that Ginkgo Biloba increases intelligence, boosts memory or prevents Alzheimer’s.  It may be possible that Ginkgo Biloba can slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease, but it cannot prevent it altogether.  However, Gingo Biloba can improve your mood because it can increase your serotonin levels.

Doctor Oz said that Ginkgo Biloba can work for your eyes and ears.  Ginko Biloba helps eyes and can help with Macular Degeneration.  The most interesting cure that Ginkgo Biloba is used for is Virtigo.  Dr Oz said that Ginkgo Biloba can reduce the symptoms of Virtigo, but we do not yet know why – this could be the next medical breakthrough for Virtigo patients!
