Dr Oz did a segment called How Often Should I Clean That?  Do you know how many times a week you should clean your towels, a loofah sponge, a cell phone or makeup brushes?  Doctor Oz gave answers to all of these so that we clean things as often as necessary without going over-the-top.

Dr Oz said that you should cleanDr Oz How Often Should I Clean That towels two times per week or after every 3 uses.  Bacteria loves to hide in dark, wet places like a towel.  When your towel gets smelly, it is because of the bacteria growing on it that lives off of dead skin cells.

Dr Oz said that you should wash towels in hot water and add a cup of oxidizing stain remover to your laundry detergent.

Dr Oz: How Often Should You Clean a Loofah Sponge?

Dr Oz said that you should clean a Loofah or one of those shower poofs once a week, because they collect dead skin cells that the bacteria can grow and feed on.

Dr Oz: How to Wash A Loofah

Dr Oz said that you should wash a loofah by soaking it in a mixture of 2 parts water to 1 part white vinegar for an hour.  Then dry it off right away with a hair dryer, otherwise the bacteria can grow back again.  Another way to clean the loofah is by putting it in the dishwasher or washing machine – just always make sure to dry it right away.

Dr Oz: How Often Should You Clean Cell Phones?

Dr Oz said that you should clean your cell phone 7 times a week, or every day.  UK Researchers found that cell phones are dirtier than toilets in public restrooms.  This is one reason that you should never share phones.  Dr Oz said that 30% of viruses can transfer from touch phones into your body, so make sure to wipe your phone down with Antibacterial Wipes every day!

Dr Oz: How Often Should You Clean Makeup Brushes?

Dr Oz said that you should clean makeup brushes 5 times per week, because bacteria live and thrive on your face and can get trapped in makeup brushes.

Dr Oz: How to Clean Makeup Brushes

Dr Oz said that every day (or at least five times a week) you can rinse your makeup brush with hot water, and once a week you should make a solution with a capful of shampoo and a cup of water to clean your makeup brushes.  I have done this for years, but I only use Baby Shampoo because I find it to be the most gentle and it does not bother my super sensitive skin.
