Dr Oz did a segment called How Often Should I Clean That? Do you know how many times a week you should clean your towels, a loofah sponge, a cell phone or makeup brushes? Doctor Oz gave answers to all of these so that we clean things as often as necessary without going over-the-top.
Dr Oz: How Often Should You Clean Towels?
Dr Oz said that you should clean towels two times per week or after every 3 uses. Bacteria loves to hide in dark, wet places like a towel. When your towel gets smelly, it is because of the bacteria growing on it that lives off of dead skin cells.
Dr Oz: How to Wash Towels
Dr Oz said that you should wash towels in hot water and add a cup of oxidizing stain remover to your laundry detergent.
Dr Oz: How Often Should You Clean a Loofah Sponge?
Dr Oz said that you should clean a Loofah or one of those shower poofs once a week, because they collect dead skin cells that the bacteria can grow and feed on.
Dr Oz: How to Wash A Loofah
Dr Oz said that you should wash a loofah by soaking it in a mixture of 2 parts water to 1 part white vinegar for an hour. Then dry it off right away with a hair dryer, otherwise the bacteria can grow back again. Another way to clean the loofah is by putting it in the dishwasher or washing machine – just always make sure to dry it right away.
Dr Oz: How Often Should You Clean Cell Phones?
Dr Oz said that you should clean your cell phone 7 times a week, or every day. UK Researchers found that cell phones are dirtier than toilets in public restrooms. This is one reason that you should never share phones. Dr Oz said that 30% of viruses can transfer from touch phones into your body, so make sure to wipe your phone down with Antibacterial Wipes every day!
Dr Oz: How Often Should You Clean Makeup Brushes?
Dr Oz said that you should clean makeup brushes 5 times per week, because bacteria live and thrive on your face and can get trapped in makeup brushes.
Dr Oz: How to Clean Makeup Brushes
Dr Oz said that every day (or at least five times a week) you can rinse your makeup brush with hot water, and once a week you should make a solution with a capful of shampoo and a cup of water to clean your makeup brushes. I have done this for years, but I only use Baby Shampoo because I find it to be the most gentle and it does not bother my super sensitive skin.
