Dr Oz: The 5-Second Rule
Is the 5-second rule really even a rule at all? There are three major variables taken into account, what kind of surface is the food dropped on? Carpet, tile, or concrete? Second, what about the food itself? Does it matter if the food is dry or moist? And then finally, how long does a food need to be on a surface before picking up bacteria and germs?
Science Bob took to the streets to take samples of various surfaces including a typical cement street. Second, he swabbed a rug, and then third he swabbed the tile floor at a restaurant. Fourth he went ahead and swabbed the subway floor and then it was off to the lab.
