Dr Oz said that if you  have heavy menstruation, weight gain, insomnia and always feel cold, then you could have low thyroid function from a hypo-active thyroid.  If your thyroid is not functioning properly, it will not alter your estrogen levels, but you can be left feeling very tired and weak.  So do not just ask for an estrogen level test at the doctor, ask to get your thyroid levels checked.  Dr Oz mentioned that 1 out of 10 women have under-active thyroid… I had no idea it was so common!  My grandmother unfortunately suffered from low thyroid function, so I hope I don’t get it.

If you are diagnosed with having Low Thyroid Function, then what do you do next to treat your Hypothyroidism?  Well here are lists of foods you should eat more of, as well as a list of foods that you should avoid / eat less of.

Healthy Foods for Hypothyroidism

– soy sauce
– shellfish
– saltwater fish
– seaweed (nori, kelp, dulce, etc.)
– low fat ice cream
– low fat yogurt
– cow’s milk
– eggs
– low fat cheese
