Dr Oz: 7 Step Diet Plan

Dr Oz’s Transformation Nation is made up of a 7 step plan to change your health by decreasing your weight.  Doctor Oz is teaming up with Weight Watchers, so he spoke with Liz Josefsberg (a Weight Watchers Leader) about why a weight loss program is so important.  She said that losing weight alone is very difficult, but when you have structure, support and a place to go, things become easier.  The following are Dr Oz’s 7 Step Plan:

  • Tell a Friend
  • Official Weigh-in/Calculate Your BMI
  • Connect with Your Doctor
  • Learn Your Family’s Health History
  • Get More Sleep
  • Assess Your Stress
  • Start New Fitness Habits

Dr Oz’s first goal for us is to lose 10% of our weight, or to get into the healthy BMI bracket.  Here are four steps to help you lose 10% of your weight:

1. Make Smarter Food Choices

Liz Josefsberg told Dr Oz that the Weight Watchers Points Plus program gives everyone a “Points Plus Budget” of points that you can “spend” each day based on individual factors like age, gender, height, etc.  You then have to make the decision as to whether you want to eat a whole plate of healthier food, or a small snack of a less healthy food, both of which may cost you the same number of points.

2. Don’t Give Up Foods You Love

Josefsberg also said that with the Weight Watchers Program you do not have Dr Oz’s Transformation Nation Million Dollar You to give up the foods that you love.  Everyone in the program also gets additional points every week for foods they love and can’t live without like pizza or ice cream sandwiches.

3. Eat More Fresh Fruits & Vegetables

Dr Oz had a gorgeous display of fruits and veggies, because with the Weight Watchers program, there are no limits on how many fruit and vegetable servings you can have daily, because they have a value of 0 Points Plus.

4. Seek Support

The final piece of advice is to seek support, because losing weight alone is always much harder.  You can join Weight Watchers for support, because they have leaders and groups of people to support you on a weekly basis.  Plus you will review strategies, tips and recipes.

  1. I am 60 years young and i need to lose about 50 pds. I weigh 226 and i am 5ft 7in. I exercise and i think i am eating right but i am still gaining weight, i really need your help Dr. Oz please.

  2. I have tried many diets. I’m diabetic and follow a good diet. don’t lose the weight. Not able to sxercise due to injured ankle.

    Dear Dr OZ i am 69 yrs young feel 40 i have had 2 back surgeries and possibly a 3rd comeing up.I am 5-3 weigh 245#s i desperately need to lose weight i live alone and live out in the country i live on a limited income and cannot join wt watchers or afford gas to go to the meetings.I know i eat out of loneliness and lack of things to keep me busy as i can only walk so far, and sit so long at a time due to pain.I have a young heart and attitude but my weight seriously limits the things i want to do in life .I am a out of doors gal love fishing,camping ,dancing gardening,mowing and careing for my 2 acres., and 3 bedroom home I stay busy 70% of my day, but i do need help in loseing weight, My body embarrasses me terribly.   5. I have always been a health fanatic. I have helped many of my friends. Then, my husband died suddenly and my whole life changed. I exercise by nearly as much as I once did. My eating habits are good. I juice and make smoothies. I also eat lots of vegetables and fruits. I can’t seem to shake the 40 pounds I picked up since my husband’s death. I feel stuck when it comes to my weight. I have been doing pilates and just bought a stationary bike so I am ready to get started but I need the extra shove. I have been a Weight Watchers client in the past but now I would rather not go that route. Yet, I would like to be a part of this program. I just celebrated my 63rd birthday yesterday so this my gift to me.

  6. I would love to join in..I’m 57 and weigh in access of 300 pounds..I started out being 5-4 but am shrinking as I get wider. Does it have to be weight watchers? How do I go about getting involved in this challenge.

    I have struggled with my food addiction for 25 years after I gave up alcohol. I cannot seem to get a grip and I have very low self esteem. My world has gotten so bad and I feel at times it is impossible. I really need help and I need a coach and I need support. My weight has kept me from living my life to the fullest for the last 25 years and I am sick of it. I weigh 220 and I am 5’2″. I am a nurse and I eat my stress away(not really) as well as worry about my patients as well as keep others at bay because the weight is a way I don’t have to take a chance and make friends. I am really sick of this . Please help me. My daughter’s graduation from college is a year away and I don’t want to look like this. Is there help for me? I just don’t know.

  12. I joined Weight Watchers with my mother and my daughter on September 1, 2011. The program is great! We have three generations going because we want my daughter to break the cycle and not pass obesity down to her children some day!!

    Dr. Oz…I am 5’4 1/2″ and weigh 215lbs. I am 62 yrs old and after a complete hysterectomy some 20+ yrs ago, ive continued to gain. My husband is a small man and I look like a football player next to him. He has finally come to love me, as I am, after 44 yrs of marriage. Ive wept so many times at failing at trying to change my lifestyle. Im an addict, plain and clear. Ive succeeded at Dr. Atkins but get tired of no sweets after 6 months and start to regain again. Ive done WW so many times, Ive lost count. Ive tried to think of someone that needs to lose weight in my realm of friends and I can’t think of one that lives close enough to go to a WW meeting with me. I have high blood pressure controlled by losartan and high cholesterol, untreated at this time due to stones in my bile ducts that were recently removed but other then that, Im in perfect physical health and I enjoy walking but when life gets in the way, I stop. I need to learn consistency, I need inspiration and encouragement desperately and for the first time in my 44 yrs of marriage, my husband has promised to support me. I would love to be part of your program in losing weight. Im ready and willing…I just need a boost that could change the rest of my life, forever. Thank you

    This is awesome we can all do it if you want to I am a beliver in change my highest was 230 I joined ww size 20, 213.6 lbs after taking off 7 lbs over the coarse of 2 months counting carbs meat,eggs, and cheese that was not working I started with no faith in ww. I learned to have faith in myself that was 4.5 years ago I weigh 143. I am 5’7 I try daily to meet my good health guidlines but nobodys perfect so I dont beat myself up. I now fill in as a receptionist at ww only when needed because it works and it makes you want everyon to succed, I wish the best to all of you and cant ait to learn of your success.

    Please help! I have tried almost every weight loss program I have ever heard of and nothing seems to work for me, including Weight Watchers. I watch what I eat, I do portion control and exercise about 3 days a week tho that is limited. I have had 3 back surgeries that only made my problem worse. So I cannot exercise like I need to. I don’t eat sugar, but I cannot lose weight. What can I do. I’m taking African Mango, I hope and pray that will help. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you and thank you for all the great things you do. I need to lose approx.35 lbs. I don’t like to look in the mirrior because all i see is fat. HELP PLEASE

  16. I also have high blood pressure that I take 2 different meds for and as of yesterday was still 167/92. My colesterol is also high and my trigliserides.

    Dr Oz, I love your show. I tape it each day just incase I need to rewind and listen again. I need to lose over 100 lbs.I am a back sliding lifetime member of weight watchers. I will go back now because I know it works. You must set your mind to change your eating habits or it Will Not work. I know that when I lose the weight some of my pain will go away. I have PMR, bad knees and a bad back. Protein S deficiency that causes clots.I can’t have surgery because of that. I could write a book, too many problems to mention. I have been sewing for the public for 40 years bending over hasn’t helped. I can’t walk very far, my legs go numb from the hips past the knees. I’m going in today for an MRI of my lumbar and cervical spine regions . They want to do shots. I really need your support. Thank you and God bless

  18. Dr Oz, I am 35 years old and weigh 235 pounds. I am in desparate need of help. Heart disease runs in my family and I want to be healthier. I want to be able to do things with my son and change my lifestyle. I also have financial harships since I was laid off from my job. I am currently taking that time and going to college full time since all the jobs now require college degree’s. How do I register for the 1million dollar giveaway and get involved in this program.   20. I forgot to add that I am currently going thru consultations and a bunch of appointments to get gastric bypass surgery. I am terrified of getting this done, but I feel it is the only option. How do you feel about gastric bypass surgery?

    I’m already seeing a diet Dr. Im a single Mom with 2 kids heading down the same path as me obesity! I was on overweight child now an obese 30 something. I have already lost 5% of my body fat but I need more support. I plan on going to Weight Watchers and I hope money or not many more Americans join me in fighting obesity!

  24. I am 35 years old and the mother of three children ages 19,14,and 10 . I have struggled with my weight for years . The only time I have stuck with a diet was by taking diet pills, the last one I took years ago had bad effects on my kidneys. I would love to learn how to eat right and feed the rest of my family at the same time………. Thankyou

  25. dear dr. oz ,i rarely get to see your show but watch when i can..I am 58 yrs. OLD and had a total hysterectomy 10 yrs. ago.gave up smoking 2 years before that. Needless to say I have put on 40 lbs. since then and can not seem to get rid of it. I have seriosly had no energy since that surgery and took nothing,no drugs or anything afterward. I literraly have to force myself to get out of bed and go to work every day..do you think my lack of energy could be due to loss of hormones??I see a dr. regularly.

  26. I had put on weight after my son was shot and killed in Iraq, USMC James Higgins Jr. I have been used by family and friends for the money. I have used everything I have and raising money for a memorial and physical theraphy and help center for military and their families.
    I need to get fit and healthy and be able to push forward to completing my sons dream. We are all here for a reason and this is mine. Please help me.

  27. I’m 64 years old I’m kind of stuck I’ve already lost over 60 pounds. I’ve had to surgeries on my left foot, in 97 I have had two replaced knees wore them out working, in a high school cafteria. So I’ve benn around food forever. It’s hard to get started again, but I’m going to do what exercises I can!

  28. Hi Dr. Oz, You give me a lot of inspiration. I had my only child at 36 years old and now I am 61 and cannot blame it on having a baby. Stats are 5’3″ 195 lbs, back smoking cigarettes for five years. I love working with mental health consumers, but I have not dated in ten years. Married for 17 years and divorced-you could call me an old lady with four cats. There can be a lot of blame placed on loneliness, but I am ready for this challenge. Thank you for the opportunity.
