Dr Oz, as part of the show called Dr Oz’s Ultimate Countdown, gave the #1 ingredient to keep in your kitchen. Doctor Oz said that this spice has not be spoken about for centuries (although it definitely has been mentioned in my household!). People in Dr Oz’s audience guessed that the spice was cayenne pepper, but the real spice Dr Oz wants in your kitchen is Nutmeg! Here are three things that Dr Oz says that nutmeg can do for us along with Dr Oz’s nutmeg recipes:
Nutmeg Stomach Soother
Nutmeg can help soothe your stomach and regulate your gastro-intestinal tract function. Dr Oz suggested sprinkling some nutmeg on oatmeal or coffee, but not over 1/2 tsp of nutmeg because otherwise it can make you nauseous.
Nutmeg Sleep Promoter
Dr Oz said that nutmeg also promotes sleep by mimicking the effect of Serotonin, which helps you to fall asleep. By adding a dash of nutmeg to milk, which has Tryptophan in it, you will be asleep in no time. My grandmother used to give us a glass of warm milk before going to bed, and it worked every time!

Dr Oz said that nutmeg can put you “in the mood.” You can try adding just a pinch of nutmeg to some cooked spinach with dinner tonight.
Dr Oz said that a little nutmeg goes a long way, and he does not recommend having more than 2 TB of nutmeg per day. Though other than nausea, he did not mention what the potential side effects would be. Now I’m curious!
