Dr Oz: Holistic Health Medicine Cabinet
Dr Oz did a segment on what Dr Andrew Weil and Dr Deepak Chopra do when they have everyday medical complaints like a cough, indigestion or headaches. So they put together this Holistic Health Medicine Cabinet with ingredients like Oil of Oregano, Honey and Turmeric, Butterbur and DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Root Extract).
Dr Oz: Oil of Oregano Cures Coughs
Dr Andrew Weil told Dr Oz that when he has a cough, he likes to breathe in steam with 3-4 drops of Oil of Oregano in it. Oregano Oil is a powerful antibacterial agent and the steam helps to open up your chest. Simply bring some water to a boil, add 3-4 drops of Oil of Oregano, drape a towel over your head and breathe in the steam. Just make sure that you do not burn yourself! Doctor Oz said that his wife Lisa Oz likes to put Oil of Oregano on his kid’s chest when they get a cold.
Dr Oz: Honey & Turmeric for Cough
Dr Deepak Chopra told Dr Oz that his cure for a cough is take take a teaspoon of honey and to sprinkle turmeric over it. Then swallow the whole spoon. Do this 3-4 times a day, and you can wash it all down with warm water if you prefer. I bet that this would work wonders for a sore throat as well!
Dr Oz: DGL Licorice Root for Indigestion
Dr Andrew Weil told Doctor Oz that he swears by Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Root Extract (DGL for short) for indigestion. The licorice extract coats your stomach and can really help relieve discomfort. You chew two tablets and let the juice slowly run down your throat. Dr Weil said you can do this at bedtime or before eating as a preventive measure, or you can even take it after eating. Deepak Chopra said that he does not ever get indigestion, but if he did, he would suggest squeezing some lemon onto ginger root and chewing on that before every meal.
Dr Oz: Butterbur Supplement for Migraine Headaches
Dr Andrew Weil said that he does not get headaches, but his favorite thing to suggest for tension headaches is a neck and shoulder massage with nice firm pressure. If you get Migraine Headaches though, Dr Weil said you should try taking Butterbur Supplements (75 mg twice daily) because it dramatically decreases how often you get migraines when you take it on a regular on-going basis.
Deepak Chopra showed Dr Oz how to do a meditation to help relieve headaches. First, put your hands out with your palms facing up. Then watch your breath for a few seconds. Bring your awareness to the middle of your chest and sense your heartbeat as a sound or sensation. Listen to your heartbeat and tell your heart to slow down. Then move your awareness down to your fingertips and try to sense a throbbing in your fingertips. During this meditation you divert your blood from your head to your limbs and instantly your headache is gone. Chopra said that this meditation also changes the activity of your nervous system and slows down your heart rate.
