Dr Oz: Peripheral Arterial Disease: Secret Sign of Heart Attacks

Dr Oz did a segment on the secret sign that you are about to have a heart attack.  He spoke about Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), which often causes leg cramps if you are walking fast, walking up a hill, or sometimes you can get the cramping even when you are doing nothing.  Doctor Oz said often people with PAD may have blockages elsewhere in the body, and this is why people with PAD are six times more likely to get heart attacks, heart disease and / or strokes. Dr. Oz , here is my comment on PAD. I have been suffering for 3 yrs. with the tighting pain in my legs & yearly going to my heart specialist for that reason & to have stress text to check my signs, for I had a heart attack when I was 36. I’m a female 56 yrs of age , always active , average wieght. They did an angiogram & next angioplasty to the largest artery of the heart, it was 98 % blocked. Its been 19 yrs. and that is still ok. Atleast that is what I’ve been told by my Heart Dr. My mitro valve is also opened to more than inch, so I have reguritation of blood to my body with every pump. After 2&half yrs of pain in legs that I could not walk 50 feet without stopping & crying in pain my heart Dr. sent me next door 15 ft. away from his office to a vascular specialist who got MRI & doppler test done in 2009. Which showed that there was total blockage in left iliac artery, got stint put in June 2010. Had MRI done 6 mths later to check. Stint is showing 50% flow, & now I have 4 more blockages in right leg. Forgot to mention that in first MRI right leg showed artery hardened & started flowing blood to a vien. Alot of pain going on . Now with this recent MRI severe 90% stenosis or near occlusion of the common iliac artery.-there is also severe 90% stenosis of the mid aspect of the left external iliac artery. Also there is a multifocal attenuation below the trifurcation now in contrast to a normal vessel previously. Their OPINION: There has been an interval change. From your view of the following comments written , PLEASE TELL ME IN BLACK & WHTE IS AMPUTATION GOING TO BE MY ANSWER? Here is their conclusion There is segmental occlusion of the distal one_third of the common femoral arteryy which has further progressed proximally. Total occlusion of the external iliac artery on the right as seen previously . On the left, a high_degree stenotic proximal segment of the iliac artery has significantly improved, HOWEVER there has been a development of additional short segmental severe 90% stenosis 4 cm from the bifurcation. There is also a tight stenosis at the distal common external iliac artery and multifocal arterial occlusive disease is seen below the trifurcation . I have been checking some places out & finding a few things , like the Diamond back – Mini drill which is in Detroit Medical Centre Silverhawk. Any info on what you think of any of this would be greatly appreciated. I feel like screaming for all that time trying to walk in pain, just needed a MRI test done & no one listening & now know it could have been prevented. thank you for your time. Dr. Oz your honesty will help me go forth with the answer to this part of my life. thanks again.

Josie, I am so incredibly sorry to hear about all of the pain and suffering you are going through. And I really wish that there was something that I could do, but we are not affiliated with Dr Oz, we are just the biggest Dr Oz Fan Website. Since I am not a doctor, I really cannot give you and medical advice, except to say that if you are unsure about the advice your doctors are giving to you — get a second, third, fourth, fifth opinion — or however many opinions you need to get before you feel like you are making the right decision. I wish you a fast and complete recovery, and welcome to the Dr Oz Fan community 🙂

I just want to thank you for your kind words & to say I’m going to be going forward to find someone who can help me with this medical problem. Now that I know that it only took 7 mths to show up on the MRI that 3 more arteries have gone to 90% blockage. Thanks again.
