Dr Oz: Prevent Cancer with Beer, Fermented Sauerkraut & Magnesium

The Dr Oz Cancer Proof Your Life show including a segment on your best bets for beating cancer before it begins.  Doctor Oz did this in the form of a game where two women from his audience had to guess which food or supplement worked best to prevent cancer. Dr Oz Beer Prevents Cancer

Dr Oz: Prevent Cancer with Beer

Dr Oz’s first question was which is better to prevent Cancer: beer or milk?  Believe it or not, the answer is beer because it protects against bacteria that has be linked to Stomach Cancer and Ulcers.  Dr Oz did say that 2 or more drinks a day can lead to an increase in other types of cancer though, so limit yourself to 1 glass of beer a day!

Dr Oz: Prevent Cancer with Fermentation & Sauerkraut

Dr Oz’s second question was which is better for preventing Cancer: sauerkraut or cabbage?  The answer is that cabbage alone helps to prevent cancer, but the fermentation process used in making sauerkraut is even better at fighting off cancer.  Ironically, just the other day I was reading a wonderful blog that gave a great Introduction to Fermentation and even documented the process of Fermenting Sauerkraut at home.  Definitely check out those two links!

Dr Oz: Prevent Cancer with Magnesium

Dr Oz’s final question was which is better to prevent Cancer: magnesium or vitamin A?  Vitamin A is good for you, but it is actually Magnesium that helps to reduce Colon Cancer in women when combined with calcium.  Hence why all of us should take Dr Oz’s Calcium Cocktail (600 mg calcium, 400 mg magnesium and 1000 IU vitamin D)!

I am fighting Stage 3C Primary Peritoneal Cancer, ie. Ovarian Cancer. I watched your show today, Nov. 18, 2010 regarding cancer preventing foods. I am currently in my second remission of almost 24 months. However, my CA-125 #’s have been slowly but steadily going up. It is now 68, It was 75 when the cancer was found. A 10/4/10 CT scan showed no progression of disease. I have been told it is better to wait until symptoms start and not to jump back into chemo just because the marker # is up. I am in agreement with this, however, I am beginning to notice the bloating and feeling full after eating small amounts of food. Sporadic pain in lower and upper abdomen. I have had on and off pains of this kind for awhile, I have been told it is due to “scar tissue” and “adhesions”!
My question at this time is; how much Sauerkraut & Magnesium is too much or too little? I also eat pureed asparagus a few times each week. What is the best way to prevent recurrance of this monster?
Hope to hear from you soon,
    Trish Holmes/Cancer Warrior

Hi Trisha, my thoughts and prayers are certainly with you! We are not affiliated with Dr Oz, we are just the biggest unofficial Dr Oz Fan website. So I really am not sure how much would be “too much” sauerkraut. Dr Oz did mention 400 mg of magnesium previously though, but I would check with your doctor to see what he recommends since drugs and supplements can interact in strange ways sometimes.
