Dr Oz: Skin Smoothers: Cleanse, Exfoliate & Moisturizing Products

By on October 20, 2010

Dr Oz did a segment on Skin Smoothers.  What is best to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin?  See how well you do on the quiz Doctor Oz gave to two of his audience members.

Best Face Cleanser: Liquid Soap vs Bar Soap

Dr Oz said that your face is exposed to dirtyDr Oz Epsom Salts substance all day long, and the best way to cleanse your face at the end of the day is with a liquid cleanser that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, because they help to keep your skin smooth and clear.  Dr Oz said to look for a liquid cleanser that is not over 2% salicylic acid.

Best Exfoliating Product: Epsom Salts vs Pumice Stone

If you  have dry and rough heels, what is the best way to smooth your skin?  Dr Oz said that he likes Epsom Salts because they gently create friction that can remove dead skin cells, while pumice stones can build up bacteria that can lead to infections.

Best Moisturizer: Aloe Vera vs Vitamin E Lotion

Dr Oz said that if you get very dry skin, especially in the winter months, then you should use aloe vera on places like dry elbows and knees.  Aloe vera lotions often contain Vitamin E as well, and unlike Vitamin E, aloe vera can penetrate into cracks in the skin to treat your dry, cracked skin.  My  mother used to always keep an aloe plant on the window sill, which she would crack off a piece and put the aloe onto any burns.  I wonder if the same aloe from the aloe plant works well for dry skin.
