Dr Oz: TMS Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation & Magnetic Therapy

Dr Oz: Magnetic Therapy

On today’s show, Doctor Oz explored TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), which is used to help cure depression. But does it work? TMS was approved 3 years ago by the FDA, but many people have yet to hear about his unorthodox procedure to help pull your brain out of its depression.

An audience member shared her story with Dr Oz.

I saw your segment on TMS for depression. I accidentally came across this treatment on line while searching for something else about a month ago. As I researched, I learned it is contraindicated for anyone who has ever had a seizure.
I have been diagnosed with depression in 1988, though I remember being depressed as young as 8 years old (1980). I would love some relief from this monstrous entity. However I have had many seizures from 1999-2005…not before and not since. Is TMS a treatment I can try? If not, is there ANYTHING I can do, as it seems many treatments for depression are ill-advised for those with seizures.
Thank you for ANY information you can give me.

I have just completed a month of TMS for severe depression that began in mid-October. I am overly sensitive to medicines, unable to tolerate the therapeutic dosages despite a few trials, and subjext to myriad unpleasant side effects.

My treatment is considered “Off-label,” on right side of brain, as they believe I am bipolar II rather than unipolar. The pulse rhythm is different, too.

After months of suffering, and being told I need to investigate ECT, just this weekend, a slight but welcome shift of improvement has occured. Treatment is complemented by brief light therapy. The Dr. Oz segment on TV really was a source of encouragment. I am in Los Angeles area.
