Have you ever gotten a splitting headache and reached for a bottle in the medicine cabinet only to find it had expired? Do you take the expired medication or do you throw it away? That is the question Dr. Oz is answering and he asked for a little help from pharmacist Suzy Cohen to explain what expiration dates on medicines really mean.

Dr Oz: Should You Give Children Expired Medication?

Pharmacist Suzy Cohen says expiration dates on medications are simply a “guide” to tell us when they will become less effective or potentially dangerous to take. She says manufacturers put dates on drugs to guarantee up to 90% potency, but reaching the date on the package does not mean you can not longer use the medication.
