Doctor Oz’s segment called Ask Dr Oz Soap Edition included lots of questions from famous soap opera stars, like Maurice Bernard from General Hospital. Maurice plays a mobster in the Italian mafia but in real life he has a problem with his hip from doing so much running and boxing – one of his friends said it might be his sciatic nerve.
Dr Oz said that Maurice Bernard likely has Patellofemoral Syndrome, which you get when you sit down too long or exercise too much in a seated position. Patellofemoral Syndrome is often confused with sciatic nerve problems.
Patellofemoral Syndrome Exercise
Dr Oz gave two exercises that are great for hip pain or Patellofemoral Syndrome:
1. Cross your leg so that your right foot is on your left knee. Tilt your belly button so that it faces towards your calf and lean forward. You will feel a stretch in your hip.
2. Stand up in a runners stretch position with your feet facing forwards and your legs spread apart. Lean your weight towards one foot and then towards the other foot. This exercise will also stretch your hip and alleviate the pain from Patellofemoral Syndrome.
