Good Morning America: Makeover App Reviews
It wasn’t too long ago that finding the right shade of lipstick or choosing the correct makeup for your skin tone required a trip to the beauty counter at a department store. But as Good Morning America discovered, now there is an app for that. In fact, there are several, and Becky Worley tried out this power by putting it in the palm of her hand.

Becky Worley tried the L’Oreal app Makeup Genius to sample some lipstick shades, like singing superstar Taylor Swift wears in a video. Using the camera on her tablet, the app virtually applied the lipstick to the reporter’s face in real time.
Good Morning America compared the app’s rendering of the lipstick shade Scarlet Concerto to the real life version, and they looked like a close match, illustrating that the app does provide a decent approximation of the actual look.
Good Morning America: Smoky Eye Makeup App
The app also suggested creating a Smoky Eye technique using makeup products. However, when GMA’s reporter followed the instructions using all the recommended beauty products, she was not impressed with her results, compared to photo example of herself generated by the app. “I wouldn’t say I nailed it,” Worley said.
GMA: Best Foundation for Your Skin Tone
Then there is the Map My Beauty app, which can help you figure out tricky contouring techniques with makeup. The company Benefit has an online Eyebrow Tool at its website.
Becky was also excited about Plum Perfect, an app that promised to match Foundation to Skin Tone. Could it really work? It turns out that the answer depends on lighting, so keep that in mind. After consulting with Plum Perfect, Worley was not satisfied with the foundation it recommended to her.
Good Morning America: Virtual Makeover Apps
For a second opinion, she turned to Beautiful Me, which also suggested a foundation lighter than what Worley typically wears. The other drawback is that each of these apps features only a limited range of products, so you may have to use more than one to put together a complete look.
However, GMA suggested that this does take some of the guesswork out of online shopping for beauty products. If nothing else, Becky Worley promised that you could have fun giving yourself a virtual makeover. Have you ever used a beauty app like these to help you shop for makeup?
