Dr Oz: The Honest Company Jessica Alba
Would you consider yourself a smart shopper when it comes to the healthy products you buy for your family? Today Dr. Oz is talking to actress and president of The Honest Company, Jessica Alba, about label lies and what to look for so you do not waste your money on products making false claims.
Jessica Alba says her desire to create a safe and healthy line of products came about when she was seven months pregnant and had an allergic reaction to a laundry detergent specifically for babies. She decided that if it was not safe for her to use, then it certainly would not be safe for her baby, which is why she created The Honest Company. Jessica says she wanted to be a part of a brand that practices transparency, but also one that does all the hard word since she admittedly is not a doctor or scientist and cannot always understand everything that is listed on a product label.
Dr Oz: What Does Hypoallergenic Really Mean?
Dr. Oz and Jessica Alba played a game to reveal some of the most common label lies that are found on the products you buy most.
Unscented is a word that is used when companies have used a different scent to mask the other scents in their product, so Jessica recommends looking for a label that reads “fragrance-free” instead.
Natural is a term that is not regulated and can be very deceiving to consumers because you think you are buying something that is good for your family, but in most cases it is not any better.
100% Organic, especially with the USDA green logo, is definitely worth spending the extra money on, but do not be duped by a label that reads 70% or 80% because it is not the same.
Hypoallergenic is another term that is not regulated and is simply used by companies as a marketing term to get you to buy their product.
Dr Oz: Jessica Alba’s DIY Beauty Mask
Jessica Alba shared some of her favorite do-it-yourself beauty treatments that you can try right at home and the best part is that they really work.
Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse: Combine 1 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and rinse your hair once a week to eliminate any buildup that has occurred.
Greek Yogurt Beauty Mask: Combine ½ cup Full-Fat Greek Yogurt, 1 tablespoon Ground Coffee, and 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil (or lemon juice if you have oily skin) and apply to your face. Leave on for a few minutes and rinse.
