Dr. Oz says that while they may make you look on the outside they could be squishing your insides and causing problems with your health. Today he has tips to wear your favorite shapewear without harming your body while still giving you the flattering appearance you desire.

Dr Oz says your spandex shapewear should not be too tight because it can cause health problems, including swelling and blood clots.
Dr Oz: How Should Shapewear Fit on My Body?
Dr. Oz says there have been cases of people wearing shapewear that is too tight and getting blood clots, which can travel throughout the body and be very dangerous to your health. This is caused when the spandex shapewear it so tight that it squeezes the blood vessels and restricts blood flow, especially in the thighs, leading to swelling and potentially life-threatening blood clots. Dr. Oz offered tips to find the best shapewear for your body that is not too tight, but still does the job.
- Make sure nothing “rolls” over the top of your shapewear.
- Sit down and cross one leg over the other. Check and see if there is a crease being created by your spandex into your thigh. If so, they are too tight.
