Dr Oz: Kid Prodigy with the Cure for Cancer
Dr Oz was inspired by a motivated teen who wants to cure her own cancer. Elana Simon said she has a rare form of Liver Cancer, which was diagnosed when she was 12. Her doctors caught it early, but there is not a lot of information about it to go on. She started working in a Cancer Research Lab to learn more about her own disease.
Dr Oz: Elana Simon Liver Cancer Research
Now it’s possible that her discovery could change the way her form of Cancer is treated. “Hopefully what my research will show people is that they can have hope,” she said.
Elana Simon told Dr Oz she was lucky to have her Cancer detected early so it could be surgically removed. But that’s not the case for many patients, and she said they need help and hope for treatment.
Dr Oz: Unexplained Pain from Liver Cancer
Elana said that she struggled for years with unexplained pain. When she got her diagnosis, she still didn’t know much about her disease. She turned her confusion into action and did some research on her own.
She didn’t tell her parents at first what she was up to. Dr Oz gave her some purple gloves so she could take a close look at a healthy Liver compared to an organ that has Cancer.
Dr Oz: Liver Cancer Mutation
Dr Oz said that a healthy Liver is spongy but has a consistent color. An organ with Liver Cancer is discolored, with clustered, mutated cells. He agreed with Elana that this can break down the organ.
Then it was time to share what Elana had learned in her quest for knowledge. By looking at tumors in 15 young patients, she was able to find that the DNA in the cancer cells had split and rejoined, fertilizing the growth of Cancer.
Dr Oz: Common Mutation in Pediatric Liver Cancer
“It was a long process,” Elana said. Isolating a common mutation was just the beginning, because there were still many tests to be done and questions to answer. Dr Oz said that science is about making incredible discoveries just like this.
Elana’s father, Sandy, is a researcher who said he was thrilled that she has taken advantage of an obstacle in her past to help others. She plans to attend Harvard, which is Dr Oz’s alma mater. He gifted her with a computer case as a token for her amazing accomplishment.
Dr Oz Pranks Husbands
Dr Oz viewers have complained that men in their lives give them a hard time. He issued a challenge for them to fool the men in their lives with rumors about crazy diets involving red juice or simmered sardines.
What did people say in response? One man said that he would not give up his gummy bears to go on an extreme juicing diet.
Another man said that he thinks Dr Oz hates husbands and he would not want to eat sardines.
The last unsuspecting victim did not want to eat Kale for a year, so he said that his girlfriend should not watch Dr Oz anymore.
