Dr. Oz: Ayurvedic Diet & Eating For Your Body Type
According to the ancient Ayurvedic diet, your body type holds the key to losing weight and remaining healthy. Dr. Oz talked to Dr. John Douillard, author of The 3-Season Diet, about the three different types of body. Each body type has different emotional, physical, and mental characteristics. To maintain optimal health, we have to make sure to eat for our body type.
Dr. Oz: What is a Vata Body Type?
Are you thin with a small frame? Do you often feel cold, constipated, and stressed? You might be a Vata body type like Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Saldana. Tiffany from the audience was a Vata who said she has all these symptoms. Dr. Douillard said she was a classic example.
Dr. Oz: What is a Pitta Body Type?
Do you have a medium build and gain all your weight in your belly? Do you hate hot weather and have a short temper? Do you often have rashes or stomach aches? You could be a Pitta body type like Michelle Obama and Kate Winslet, as well as Dr. Douillard and Dr. Oz.
Dr. Oz: What is a Kapha Body Type?
Do you have a large body frame and gain weight easily? Are you a calm person? Do you frequently get colds and congestion? Do you feel tired often? Melissa McCarthy and Queen Latifah are examples of the Kapha body type. Could you be one, too?
Dr. Oz: Eating for the Vata Body Type
If you’re a Vata body type, you should eat more proteins and fats in the winter. Dr. Douillard said he believes each body type should eat differently in the winter than in other seasons. The reason is because of nature. Our ancestors and other animals ate according to what was in season and these changes would sometimes be very dramatic. Deer actually die if they eat foods out of season.
For Vatas, they should eat animal proteins like meat and eggs, as well as nuts. They should also have avocados, olive oil, ghee, and drink licorice and cinnamon tea.
Dr. Oz: Eating for a Pitta Body Types
Pitta body types should eat bile-moving foods because they gain weight around the middle. They should eat artichokes, kale, beets, and apples. These will help flush out the bile. They should also use coconut oil and drink chamomile tea.
Dr. Oz: Eating for Kapha Body Types
Because people with Kapha body types are often heavier, they need lean proteins and carbs. They should eat pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, mung beans, Brussels sprouts, and grapefruits. Mung beans are particularly valuable because they work as anti-flatulents, which can be useful when you’re eating a high fiber diet like this. They should also drink ginger tea.
