Dr. Oz: Healthy Chinese Food
Dr. Oz talked to Lisa Lillien, author of The Hungry Girl Diet Cookbook, about how to stay healthy eating out. First, when you go out to eat Chinese food, make sure to order an appetizer with the main course. This is because you’ll end up eating fewer calories throughout the meal.
If you like fried dumplings for example, instead ask for steamed dumplings. Have them with steamed shrimp and veggies with brown rice and brown sauce on the side. If you’re worried about calories, choose soy sauce. It does have a lot of sodium, but it’s lower in calories than the brown sauce.
Dr. Oz: Eat Healthy Italian Food
If you want to eat healthy at an Italian place, look at the calorie counts online. Most chain restaurants will have that info on their site.
However, if you go to an Italian restaurant and don’t have a plan, you can still find swaps. If you want the chicken parmesan, ask for grilled chicken with a little bit of Parmesan and the marinara. Also make sure to get whole wheat pasta. A normal chicken Parmesan plate might be 1,980 calories. But Lisa’s plate is only 408 calories.
Dr. Oz: Healthy Mexican Food
If you go to a Mexican place and you want to eat healthy, don’t give in to peer pressure. It can be easy to eat 20 tacos just because it’s Taco Tuesday, but don’t do that.
One of the best ways to eat healthy at a Mexican place is to get a burrito bowl. Cutting out the taco shells cuts out a bunch of calories. A burrito bowl is all the insides of a burrito without the shell.
