Dr Oz: Fast Food Under 500 Calories: McDonalds & Subway

Dr Oz: Healthy Fast Food

You can say in order to lose weight, you’re going to cut out fast food forever, but let’s be truthful. That’s never going to happen, so on today’s show, Dr Oz gave you options to make the fast food a little healthier (while escaping the dirty little Restaurant Secrets). He enlisted the help of Dr. Allan Stewart and Dr. Mathew R. Williams, two heart specialist, and challenged them to find the healthiest fast foods under 500 calories. Could they do it?

Dr Oz McDonalds Healthy Choices

Dr Oz spoke about healthy choices at McDonalds, Dominoes and Subway.

Dr Oz: McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets

Who doesn’t love chicken McNuggets? A 6-piece meal only contains 330 calories and18 grams of fat. This is one of the best balances of getting a junk food fix and being healthy. The chicken contains lots of protein and no trans fat. Dr. Williams warned, don’t eat more than 2-3 times per month. You could also go without the sauce and save 50 calories. If you do opt of the sauce, have only 1 packet for the entire 6 nuggets.

Dr Oz: McDonald’s Premium Chicken Sandwich

With the added lettuce tomato and honey mustard sauce, you get a delicious tasting healthy meal that is only 350 calories and contains only 9 grams of fat. This meal will have you feeling satisfied. Get rid of the mayo and you save 50 calories.

Dr Oz: Dominoes Tuscan Salami With Roasted Veggies

With this sandwich, you get the flavor without the bulk. Their salami contains less sodium than the pepperoni. Dr. Williams warned that you shouldn’t eat all 8 slices, however, there are only 150 calories per slice so you can enjoy 2. In 2 slices, you only get 12 grams of fat.

Dr Oz: Dominoes Low-Fat Cheese Pizza

You can get this pizza without the sauce, but get real, what’s a pizza without the sauce? Go low-fat instead. The extra fiber that comes with the veggies will keep you full. For 2 slices, there is only 360 calories and 10 g of fat.

Dr Oz: Subway Veggie Delight

This sandwich is loaded with veggies, so you know what that means—it’ll keep you full longer. The avocado contains healthy fat and the cucumber chips add a healthy crunch. Use vinegar instead of mayo for flavor. This sandwich only has 300 calories and 9 g of fat.

Dr Oz: Subway Roasted Chicken

The chicken in this sandwich gives you the proteins. The added veggies will give you more flavor and texture. This sandwich contains only 390 calories and 6 grams of fat.

I am disgusted by Dr Oz for actually promoting disgusting, fried, GMO, pesticide, hormone laden garbage. McDonald’s?? Are you out of your mind?? No sane, sensible, knowledgeable doctor would EVER recommend eating such disgusting food.
Dr, Oz should be ashamed for promoting such garbage.

WOW! I do not agree. I am by far not a McDonalds advocate. However, we all find ourselves at a fast food place at one time or another. So to know that there is a reasonable option to have a meal with the kids and the football team after practice is nice. Don’t take the segment out of context, no one said “go eat at McDonalds” but if you find yourself there eat this, not that. Take it easy lady, life is too short.

I agree with the general sentiment expressed by most posters re: McDonalds, specifically the Chicken McNuggets. This episode was just rebroadcast today, and I was horrified to see McNuggets endorsed on the Dr. Oz show. Check out the link below for more info on McNuggets – it will scare you.

I am bummed – I generally like and respect Dr. Oz, but my respect just waned a little bit today.

I like Dr. Oz’s fast food choices and I would like to suggest that he should provide a book of his eating out guide and with weight watchers points. Good idea.

I understand why this is so terrible. In todays busy society, everyone is on the go and he is trying to help people who love their fast food to make better decisions on the menu.
