Dr Oz: Food Addict Symptoms
Do you think to successfully lose weight you need to count calories, eat non-fat foods, and measure and weigh everything before you eat it? Today Dr. Oz and his guest, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, are discussing the 5 Epic Diet Mistakes Smart Women are Making and they want you to throw out everything you believe about dieting and losing weight because it is all wrong.
Dr Oz Epic Diet Disaster: Do Not Diet
Dr. Oz and Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of the book Eat to Live, are ready to share what Dr. Fuhrman believes are the most epic mistakes people are making when it comes to dieting and losing weight. The first epic disaster is starting a diet. Dr. Fuhrman says that the first thing we do when we go on a diet is cut calories and eat less, which leads to yo-yo dieting and weight gain, sometimes more pounds than they lost in the first place.
Epic Diet Disaster: Food Addiction
Dr. Joel Fuhrman says that most of the diet plans out there are simply gimmicks and tricks to get you to try their program, but they do not supply you with the full amount of nutrients that your body needs in order to be healthy.
Dr Oz: Gluten-Free Diets Do Not Work
Dr. Fuhrman shares that gluten is only a problem for less than 10% of the population and when people go on gluten-free diets they usually eat things like rice and potato flour, which will cause you to gain weight rather than lose it. You need to figure out the real problem in your diet in order to get healthy and lose weight.
Dr Joel Fuhrman: High Protein Diet Worsens Diabetes
Dr. Joel Fuhrman explains that high protein diets are bad for you because too much protein leads to weight gain and a worsening of Diabetes. It also promotes a hormone known as IG1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1), which can cause breast cancer. Dr. Fuhrman believes that high protein low carb diets are actually dangerous because they can cause acid in your tissues, which is bad for your long-term health.
Dr Oz: Fat Free Diets
Dr. Joel Fuhrman explains that we need fat in our diet because it helps to absorb cancer-fighting nutrients, which can lead to unhealthy food cravings and your body cannot lose fat if you are not eating any fat.
Dr Joel Fuhrman: Do Not Count Calories
While so many of us believe that we need to eat less calories in order to lose weight, Dr. Fuhrman says that this is all wrong because so many of us are already calorie-deficient. It will actually set you up for diet failure and make you crave food even more, which will lead to overeating and weight gain.
Dr Oz: 6 Small Meals a Day Diet Failure
Dr. Fuhrman explained to Dr. Oz that the idea of eating several small meals a day is a bad idea because this approach has actually shown that people end up eating more calories at the end of the day. It also does not give the body time to detox, repair and heal because we are always stuffing it with food.
Dr Joel Fuhrman: Food Addiction Symptoms
Many of us probably associate things like Headaches, Stomach Cramps, Light-Headedness, Growling Stomach, and Irritability with hunger, but Dr. Joel Fuhrman says that this is not the case at all. Instead he says that they are all withdrawal symptoms from all of the bad foods that you are eating.
Dr. Fuhrman even says that they are addictive symptoms because your body is craving those bad foods, which you keep feeling a need to eat and then you keep on gaining weight. It is similar to a person who smokes cigarettes and tries to quit the habit. Their body suffers from withdrawal, which is exactly what happens when you start to deprive your body of unhealthy foods.
Dr Oz: Toxic Hunger
Toxic hunger is what happens when you stop eating bad foods and your body suffers from withdrawal symptoms, according to Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Dr. Fuhrman explains that there are two feelings you have as an addict. First is the high from the rush you get from feeding your craving and the second is when you try to stop eating those foods and you feel sick. This is because your body is trying to heal itself and repair the damage caused by that substance. You being to feel weak, fatigued, and experience stomach cramping, so you keep eating those foods because it takes away the pain. Toxic hunger comes from eating calories to feed an addiction rather than eating to fuel your body.
Dr Joel Fuhrman: Break the Food Addiction Cycle
Dr. Joel Fuhrman says the only way to break the addiction cycle is to eat more food or more of the right kinds of foods. When you eat nutrient-filled foods you begin to nourish your body and end those withdrawal feelings. You will not be hungry in between meals anymore and you will begin to understand what true hunger feels like and you will crave more of the right foods.
