Dr Oz: Spices to Improve Your Mood
When you have a bad mood, it can throw your entire day off course. But Dr Oz showed us all how spices can help us snap out of it and turn our moods around. Learn the benefits of Cardamom, a Cilantro Cocktail Recipe, and Cayenne Pepper.
Dr Oz: Cilantro Mood Booster

Dr Oz showed how spices can improve your mood, from Cardamom naturally found in Chai Tea to Cayenne Pepper for fatigue and a Cilantro Cocktail pick-me-up.
Beth said that she has moody mornings trying to coach her son through getting out the door. Starting off on that note can put her in a bad mood or be stressful, but there is a spice that could change things for her.
Dr Oz said that if you are having a bad mood morning, delicious Cilantro can relieve tension naturally. It has been compared to Valium in terms of its chemical effects! I guess some people think it tastes like soap, but I have never noticed that.
Dr Oz: Cilantro Cocktail Recipe
You can put Cilantro in almost anything. Chef Sue Torres from Suenos in New York City had a good tip as well: blend it up into a pesto sauce or add it to a drink like this Cilantro Cocktail.
Ingredients
- Cilantro
- Serrano Chiles

- Tequila
Directions
- Shake it up and serve!
Dr Oz: Cayenne Pepper Fights Fatigue
Next, Dr Oz met Charlonda, who said that she is sometimes fatigued and cranky. What spice could help her? The answer here is Cayenne Pepper, which made Dr Oz cough.
The capsaicin in Cayenne Pepper can pick you up and wake you up. “If it’s not hot, I don’t like it,” Charlonda said.
Registered dietitian Holly Granger said that Cayenne is a Southern staple. She suggested stirring it into dark hot chocolate or putting it on popcorn and trail mix as a snack.
Dr Oz: Cardamom Chai Tea
Andrea said that she has problems with getting overwhelmed and sometimes feels down as a result. Doctor Oz had one final spice solution for her: Cardamom. This can stabilize the mind and body, he said.
Theresa Long from Chopra Center University, an Ayurvedic cooking institute, uses Cardamom for its sweet and savory undertones in baked goods. You can also find it in Chai Tea to stabilize your mood. Dr Oz said he likes to drink it at night.
