Dr Oz: Hidden Sugar In Food
Is it possible you’re addicted to sugar without even knowing it? Dr Oz was proud to welcome David Zinczenko, who came up with the “Zero Sugar Diet.” Dr Oz stressed that the plan isn’t just for those who know they’re sugar addicts, but also for people who may have an issue with sugar without even knowing it. David admitted that he didn’t have a sweet tooth growing up and actually loved all food, but had no idea what was actually in the food he was eating.
As he got older, David learned more about what makes up the foods in his diet and it led to “Eat This, Not That.” The truth is that we are taking in an average of 88 grams of added sugar a day, which is four times more than we should be. That’s 400 calories a day without a bit of nutritional benefit.

While the Zero Sugar Diet can certainly help you lose weight, more importantly it can help prevent heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, certain forms of cancer, and other health problems. You can start by taking the quiz on the next page to determine whether you’re a hidden sugar addict.
Dr Oz: Are You A Sugar Addict?
For each question, answer “A” if your response is “rarely,” answer “B” if your response is “occasionally,” or answer “C” if your response is “daily.”
- Do you have trouble waking up in the morning and crash in the afternoon?
- Do you suffer from headaches, brain fog, or moodiness?
- Do you often crave carbs?
- Do you eat even when you aren’t hungry?
- Do you feel guilty after eating?
If you answered C to any of the questions, especially multiple questions, you could be a hidden sugar addict, even if you think you eat pretty healthily. For example, store-bought tomato soup seems like a healthy option but it can contain 12 grams of sugar, which is as much as more than one glazed donut.
A “lean” frozen dinner is another food product that seems like a great healthy option for busy people. One of those meals can contain as much sugar as 2 glazed donuts, or 24 grams of sugar! A smoothie from your local smoothie shop can contain as much sugar eleven donuts!
